X Com 2 announced:

I'm watching a modded playthrough on youtube atm, and installed a few of the ones they use when I started my game. No really serious ones that add new enemies or increase squad size or anything like that, just ones that improve the existing gameplay, like providing more information, such as which moves will end turns, or adding fixes.

Here's the link to the full list of mods for the youtube playthrough that I got my mods from. On subsequent playthroughs I'll probably add more game changing ones.

Wow!
I started my new playthrough on Legend difficulty.
And was looking forward to the new DLC mission which happens reallly early in the game.
I brought a totally unprepared team and failed. had to start over.
On the next run I forgot to switch out some of the weapons for the Alien hunter weapons which are invaluable on this one, so standard rifles only for the most part.
All my grenadiers were wounded in the infirmary, dammit!
So I only could bring 1 ranger, 1 specialist, 2 snipers and Lily Shen of course.
This time i at least knew what to expect and changed my tactics accordingly.

Make sure you have 5 soldiers available on your team before starting this, you will need the firepower! And get the best gear that is available to you this early.
The first level of the tower is pretty easy (comparatively). Deal with the first few MECs, which have 4 health and 3 armor points, so rarely any oneshot kills!!!).
Make use of Shen's hacking ability to strengten your numbers and give the hostile MECs another target. The MECs have really bad aim, so if you want, you can use the self destruct on them with any hacked unit, but on this difficulty it will not kill a MEC on full health. But this will be essential later.
Make sure every soldier is in position to use the elevator before activating it.
make sure you leave lst with your heavy hitters, in case you need to take down a few of those MECs coming at you with self destruct. If you can, stay out of their sight, so they will attack any hacked unit, go into overwatch or self destruct mode to avoid fire. Reaction shots of them are not that dangerous, because they have low aim anyway.
Next level deal with the first 4 turrets, then enter the middle room with all soldiers before activating SPARK so you don't have to waste any action points to get in there next round before the poison gas is released.
Take position at the far side of the room behind full cover and reload.
now activate spark.
A few turrets will spawn, if possible try to take them all out so you can move spark all the way to the deactivation button with his overdrive ability to turn it off next round.
Now, as soon as the gas is off i started to sprint my units as near as possible to the elevators.
That means I couldn't take any shots at the turrets and incoming MECs, but tried to stay out of line of sight of the turrets. You should be able to avoid any reaction shots of the turrets, if you get hit, they won't kill you. So this strategy was worth it IMO.
You can choose to fight, but then you only move at half the speed across the room and have to make damn sure your shots kill or you will be overwhelmed.
Top of the Tower
This is the most tricky part.
Fighting the sectopod with essentially noob soldiers is all but impossible and neither Lily nor SPARK are allowed to die so be really carefull when and where to position them.
It took a whole lot of reloading and experimenting with tactics and a bit of luck to succeed.
First round I used the few grenades and SPARK's rocket to reduce it's armor as much as possible and deal as much damage as you can (lots of one damage hits are likely.
A ouple MECS will come in and the sectopode will take shots at you and will prioritize SPARK. It is likely you will take some damage here.
If you are lucky the sectopod moves near one of the two generators.
ignore the MECS and use combat protocol to deal more damage and shoot whatever you have at it.
if you have the freeze bomb use it to reduce one action point of the sectopod.
two more MECS will come in and another round of surviving somehow.
Now is your chance.
use Shen to hack the sectopod to take control not of itself but of every MEC on the roof. This should be 4 plus one back in teh corner that likely remained hidden until now.
if you succeed (roughly 50/50) you know have 5 walking bombs you can throw at the sectopod and remove any remainign armor and deal between 10-15 damage.
With any luck you can now take that thing down in one or two rounds.
if either SPARK or Lily take too much damage, remove them from the line of fire at least until you can deliver the kill shot.
Good luck!
Even with these tactics I still lost one soldier. But i figured to cut my losses, it is Legend diifficulty after all and just be happy to succeed in the mission.

I just build my second SPARK unit. When I customized it, the game had a very nice surprise.
I changed the default voice to English Warrior and the voice is none other than Michael "Worf" Dorn!

Long War 2 is now available on Steam for download. It's a total conversation mod created by the same company as the original Long War mod.

Long War 2 adds a lot more depth to the strategic layer, adds new tactical missions, as well as adds a new soldier type, new weapons, new aliens, etc...

Thank's for the heads up, i haven't been keeping up to date with XCom lately. Installed it and i think i have to relearn the game from the ground up

I really like the new Infilitration mechanic and am curious to see how it plays out.. fiddled a bit with the Options so damage gets varied a little (keeps it interesting) and i'm now trying to figure out all the new elements and what they do.

That's how you revitalize an already awesome game :techman:

Yeah, the mod definitely changes the game a lot.

I like the infiltration mechanic too. It allows the player to influence the mission since the higher the infiltration level, the fewer enemies on the map. You don't want to wait too long because the sooner you get the rewards from the mission, the better but you also want to go when the infiltration is high enough. And of course, you can do multiple infiltrations at the same time so there is more to manage now. So you need to think about which mission is ready to go.

This game is so awesome.

Started a Long War 2 campaign on Commander difficulty figuring "What the heck.. i was pretty good at XCom 2. Let's see what happens" and yeah.. stuff happened

Intro mission went ok and i played a bit around on the Geoscape to see what was different. Soon enough missions popped up until i had 3 Teams infiltrating, the last one comprised of 6 Rookies because i ran out of Specialists.
Naturally this Mission (Hack a Console) came up first with not so good prospects but i started anyway. Cleared out the first 4 Advent guys group comparatively easy and moved up only to trigger 2x 4 Man groups with that new Stunner Bot and then from the Fog came another 5 Man group :lol:

I laughed, said Nope and exited to desktop :lol:

I really have to start one step lower to see and familiarize myself with the new elements.. it sure looks very promising and i can't wait to find out all the new stuff that may appear later on. Might even shell out 15 bucks for Shen's Last Gift since i stopped playing by the time this DLC was released.

I tried Long War 2 a bit but went back to playing the base XCOM2 with the 2 DLCs. The unmodded game is fantastic and lots of fun for me. LW2 is a great mod but it makes the game too long and difficult for my taste.

I just completed the final mission again.
This time I managed it without any Squadsize upgrades for the Army of four achievement.
Final mission took me three hours!
So good when the second Avatar goes down and the last one only has 3HP left.
The honor went to the Commander's avatar to finish it with a big lightshow and a giant psionic AoE attack.
So amazing this feeling to finish this!

Hey guys. I've recently been thinking about starting my own and first let's play series on YouTube.

I've been debating myself if I should do them in English or in German.

English would probably have a potentially larger audience (including some of you maybe?)
Or I might do them in German instead.
Which would make it a bit more unique since there is less content there already.

What do you think are the pros and cons?

Finished my first WOTC playthrough. Loved the expansion, overall. Ends with yet another teaser for a new threat from the ocean. I guess it's confirmation that they're at least planning to make an Xcom 3.

I recently finished my first Legend campaign.

It took me a few tries to get rollin‘ but once you get enough momentum it becomes great fun.
Including the game bullshitting you whenever it can.
If anything it becomes to easy again in the endgame.

Up next an Ironman Legend run.

War of the Chosen is out.
Haven't played it myself yet, but it looks great and revitalizes the game a lot.

I have bought it for the holidays and damn is that one hell of an expansion.. i love it. I'm a few hours in and the added stuff changes and expands the original so much that it's nearly a new game. The 2 new soldier classes are awesome though feel like modded versions of Ranger and Psionics classes of old but with nice twists (love how the Templars are boosting their capabilities with each kill).

I'm still early in the game but i'm preparing to take down the first Chosen.. nasty and annoying little buggers (as if i don' thave my hands full against the regular Aliens) but the Lost are (for now) a hoot.. shooting practice and it's a fun mechanic to get extra actions if you kill the Zombie so basically you can chain kill an entire swarm with a single soldier (though i'm sure they'll get much harder as the game progresses, a new type with more HP already appeared and it takes heavy weapons to take him down in a single shot).

Really loving it and if the comment above turns out true i am definitely in for XCom 3: Terror from the Deep

Not yet a full campaign, but I just uploaded my first let‘s play video with XCOM 2 specifically to show how I got The Who needs Tygan? achievement where you have to finish the final mission with conventional gear only. Except I played the entire campaign without upgrades.
Was a bit of a nailbiter at the end for me.
It‘s also a bit long, but if you like the game check it out. Enjoy.
