X Com 2 announced:

I'm at a stage where more and more Mutons arrive including Berserkers and they are a bitch to handle, especially the Berserker. It sometimes takes nearly the entire Squad to bring one down.

Oh.. and another pain in the ass is the Shieldbearer Trooper.. in a recent Retaliation mission he got to fire off his ability and instant 3 Extra Hitpoints as a Shield to every enemy trooper :brickwall: (now i had to fight against a shielded Berserker.. fun times).

I'm loving the game, it's awesome! :techman:

Aaaand the Chryssalids have appeared.. i hate these fuckers and they got new skills too!

Encountered the first Sectopod too in a storyline mission (big, hulking robot) and took him down in one shooting spree but damn, this thing can take hits. If he got around to shooting he surely would have messed up my squad.

Sectopods apparently get two attacks per turn. First encounter, it killed my best ranger from full health. My combat hacker specialist pretty quickly became my favorite soldier after that. They're a bit more manageable when they're not shooting back.

My Hackers can shut down Mechs pretty well but taking them over is still a pretty big gamble. I seem to remember that i can either build some upgrade to increase the chances or i have to research something. In the meantime it's concentrated firepower.. worked the first time. Of course i lucked out and it was the only enemy at the time and my team could focus fire.

Now it's a Dark Event. The Avenger was downed by an UFO and i have to defend it and the enemies are just swarming. Troopers, Officers, Mechs, Shieldbearers, Chrysalids and now the Sectopod (and i have to move through all that to destroy a beacon that keeps me from lifting off again.. Fun! :brickwall::wah: That'll be a mission i will be glad when it's over. I prevented another Dark Event figuring my guys were pretty good.. everybody has Plasma Weapons, i have Colonels and Majors leading the Squad, Special Ammunition etc. but when i see what is charging at me this will be one bitch of a fight.. the hardest yet.

Made the mission in the Spoiler paragraph and it actually wasn't too bad (it was my second try, first try i was too agressive and moved too far ahead).

It felt a little bit like Black Hawk Down where the mission objective was somewhere ahead but between us and it there's tons of enemies.

Lined up my guys and set them all to overwatch and managed to withstand the first assault. After i dealt with the assaulting troops i moved ahead slowly, always ending in overwatch, and killed off all reinforcements the enemy dropped each turn. You remember the Sniper team scene from Blackhawk Down when they defended the downed pilot, shooting nonstop, yelling "Reloading!" constantly?
That's how that felt

Got a little bit tense when a trio of Chryssalids decided to join the fray but overwatch and Plasma Weapons dealt with that in an acceptable manner.

At the end the motto was "Get the hell out of Dodge!" as the enemy started to rain down Mechs and Officers so my guys packed up shop and ran full ahead back to base. Lift off and a heartfelt "Fuck You!" to the Aliens!

I know it's just a game and i know i may get on people's nerves with me gushing over this game but i don't care.. i don't believe there's going to some other game i'll enjoy more than XCom 2 this year (and the visual design is awesome.. my guys are now equipped with medium generic armor that could have been one of Tony Starks Iron Man designs.. it looks awesome!).

When the Dark Event "Hunt XCom" appears do anything in your power to prevent it from being activated.. trust me! ;) (unless you like to be really challenged)

Have fun.. it's an awesome game.

I don't know. It's basically just a obstacle keeping you from progressing, but from what I've seen it's a fun mission.
Hasn't come up for me yet, though.
Kinda itching to do it, now that I have the defense matrix up and running at full strength.
But Advent is throwing Sectopods and Gatekeepers at me in every mission now it seems.
So that has me worried a bit.

Sectopods aren't such a problem unless you are already swarmed by other troopers.. it sure is big and can take some damage but it is hit easily and goes down fast to concentrated fire (especially if you have 1-2 Heavy Gunners in your squad who can shred Armor and can mark the target for subsequent attacks).

The same applies to Gatekeepers and they go down even faster than Sectopods.

Just remember to not advance too far out with your squad so you can avoid triggering multiple groups at once (unless you are on a timed mission) and also remember that in a pinch you can destroy walls with explosives to open up additional fire possibilities.

Have fun, rotate through your soldier roster so they all gain experience and you are not left pants down if a mission goes totally wrong and incapacitates/kills your best squad and constantly try to build something in your base, especially Communications to be able to deal with new threats fast (nothing is more troublesome than having a critical mission pop up and you can't do a mission there because you have no more contact options left to include the country in your resistance movement).

Yes, I have successful strategies against Sectopods, it's just a matter of them getting the drop on me or not and can I take them down in one round or not.
My Snipets use bluescreen rounds and I always have an EMP grenade on my Heavies plus combat protocol abd hacking of a specialist to keep them under control.
I just do not want them showing up in Avenger defense. Don't know if that is possible or not. :)

However, I was a bit unlucky in a mission where I had to protect a device from being destroyed. And while I got pinned down by sone pretty heavy pods, a gate keeper was the one that kept shooting it every round, so I could not get there n time, because it was dishing out so much damage.

Been waiting on the Shen's Last Gift DLC with the new soldier class before I start my second playthrough. Don't know if the DLC will need a fresh campaign or not. I heard that Alien Hunters one did.

Been doing my first playthrough, and not sure if I've got a bug where dead MECs aren't being added to my inventory, or I've just been really unlucky with not finding any missions where I can bring their bodies back to the Avenger.

Either way, almost everything researched, and no Blue-screen rounds or EMP bombs...

Yeah, turns out I had just been really unlucky, but I finally got a MEC back to the Avenger last night. :D

I am nearing the end of my first campaign. Next one I will run on Legend difficulty.
Commander difficulty is nice, but at the end my Squad became too OP for Advent.

Downloaded a few mods with Stargate SG 1 voice packs. that should be fun. XD

Any other recommendations for mods?

New DLC "Shen's Last Gift" is out!
have to keep myself heavily from being spoiled on YT right now while the update is downloading.
I want to finish my current play through and start fresh with the new content. :)
I was pleasantly surprised that i get it for free from steam, as it's apparently included in deluxe pack i bought earlier. :)
