Right now it sounds its going to be CM Punk vs. Stone Cold at Mania. Punk is pushing for it and Steve has repeatedly said he'd love to have his last match be against Punk. Sadly, that leaves Jericho out in the cold.
Course, Jericho could be their go-to back up guy, and it wouldn't be the first time that Steve has had to back-out during a build up.
Interesting regarding Austin and Punk. I've seen a bit of their tweeting. It doesn't make sense from a storyline point of view right now...but of course that could change and that could be another Superstar Vs Legend match to go along with Rock/Cena.
Pretty easy to set up with Punk's Straight Edge life style vs. Steve's love for beer. Have Steve appear on Raw offering Punk a beer, he declines and go from there.
Well they've already confronted each other on Raw already with the classic "What?" segment from the summer time and Austin called Punk a Punk rather playfully at the end of it. It was the Raw where they revealed the winner of Tough Enough. They don't really need to reintroduce anything on screen if they do that.
I personally think that Stone Cold would make a better special guest ref. at this point in his career. But, that might just be the shameless Jericholic in me talking.
But, hear me out. Steve hasn't laced up his boots and put on the jorts for a match since about 2002.
Course, having both Rocky and Steve on the marquee will definately increase buyrates.
BUt, CM Punk needs someone he can really show off his work-rate with. Back in ROH, a 30+ minute match was nothing to Punk, now in the WWE it's everything. I don't know how many times the commentators touted that the MitB match went over the 30 minute mark. At this stage of the game I don't think Austin could be carried to a 3 star quality 15 minute match.
Yeah The Rock hasn't wrestled in a long time and he's returning to the ring next month...so I dunno. Austin's been doing action flicks as well, not as prolific or high profile obviously as Dwayne's films (most of Steve's films have been DTV's) but maybe a match like that would still work. You'd think Steph and Vince would give Punk a match though with someone he is feuding with...which is currently...no one?? Paul and Phil just finished their program one thinks. They've really gone everywhere with this story line and made it a mess.
Rocky is still *just* past his prime. He was the youngest World Champion ever in 1998. I can still trust Rocky to give a 4-star match. Earning 2 of those stars with his charisma alone.
Rocky has never really gotten 'out of shape', he's gained and lost weight for roles, but I don't ever recall feeling like Rocky couldn't go.
Steve on the other had... I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a wheelchair within the next 5 years.

Heh. Dwayne is facing Cena though...and although John is capable of having multiple star matches I really can't see their match next spring be anything but a three star at the very least. Maybe my clear opinion on this thing is providing a bias but I'm open to have my mind changed when the time comes.
I don't think some people understand Steve Austin's condition and whilst he claims things like having another year run left in him, it's more bravado than anything else. I'm not an expert but as a fan of wrestling I've researched the various injuries that affect pro wrestlers.
Steve Austin was dropped on his head and broke his neck when Owen Hart botched a piledriver during their match at Summerslam 1997. Initially Austin decided to rehab the injury and returned to action later in the year where he performed full time until the end of 1999. He then had spinal fusion surgery that sidelined him for a year. Austin risked his health further by returning to wrestle and by the end of 2002 he was suffering with severe pain and a build up of injuries. His last match against The Rock at Wrestlemania XIX almost never happened due to Austin's injuries.
Whilst I'm not sure of the extent of Austin's neck injuries, it's safe to assume that the damage is prominent in the Cervical and Thoracic areas at the top of the spine. Doctor's have advised him that one wrong move could leave him paralysed or worse... If Austin's neck has recovered to a point where he isn't experiencing pain and the usual long term symptoms associated with neck injuries - I would still be against him wrestling. It's such a risky business and whilst I'm sure the likes of CM Punk are amongst the safest wrestlers in the ring, it's just not something Austin should take a chance on.
Just for comparison, here's some of the worst neck injuries suffered in wrestling.
Mitsuharu Misawa - Died after a belly to back suplex went wrong and caused a cervical spine injury that put him into cardiac arrest.
Darren Drozdov - Initially left a quadraplegic after a running powerbomb went wrong, has since regained the use of his upper body but is very likely confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Hayabusa - Paralysed after landing on his head following an Asia Moonsault and despite regaining the ability to walk (albeit with a cane) his wrestling career is over.
Steve Austin - Explained previously, has suffered various problems and recurring pain following a botched piledriver.
Edge - Developed cervical spinal stenosis as a result of a neck injury suffered 8 years prior. Will probably never wrestle again and could face surgery depending on the severity of his stenosis.
Kurt Angle - Multiple neck injuries accumulated over the years. Has declined to have career ending neck surgery and suffers with recurring bouts of pain as a result. Has since recovered to a degree but just one botched move could end his wrestling career.

Unless you've been really lucky like Ric Flair (who suffered a neck injury after a plane crash in the 1970's and was told he'd never wrestle again - only to return and wrestle full time for another 30 years) the chances are it will severely shorten your career. Some wrestlers have been fortunate enough to never suffer any injuries that have impacted upon their career - The Rock, CM Punk and Kane being among those lucky enough to have remained largely injury free despite being risky bump takers. The chances of injury though are so high that many wrestlers cannot get insurance and as a result cannot retire early following an injury because they cannot afford it.

I wholeheartedly agree. As I said, I have a bit of bias concerning whether I'd rather see Steve Austin or Chris Jericho... I'll admit it if I'm wrong about Austin's current ability to have a good match.

It also looks like John Morrison is on the way out when his contract expires in the next couple of months. There has been talk that WWE will not renew it. I'd expect Morrison to resurface in TNA or ROH, he's a talented guy who just hasn't been able to break through the glass ceiling in WWE.
Tomko remains in jail following his arrest for robbing a pharmacy for Oxycodone. Tomko has apprently reached out to WWE with the intention of pursuing their rehab program (WWE pays for all current and former employees to attend drug rehab).

Does anyone have any theories as to why Primo, JTG and Trent Barreta are still employed by WWE, give that none of them have done anything in months? Primo was in line for a big push a couple of years back when his tag team with Carlito broke up. This never materialised though and he hasn't wrestled on a PPV since July 2009.
It's incredible to think that these three have survived the roster cuts but the likes of Vladimir Kozlov and DH Smith haven't. They either have friends in high places or are happy to job to anyone and everyone on the house show circuit.
