wwe vs tnt anyone watching?

Given the state of things right now in WWE I will probably not be watching Raw until November when they start to get things in gear for Survivor Series. To me the current program has stagnated and being prolonged and gone messy. I've been patient so far but even the Awesome Truth isn't enough to keep my attention :(

Did everyone get Maffew's joke? :)

Ok for the blog I need some personnel. At the moment I'm looking for...

-Someone to review Raw
-Someone to review Smackdown
-Someone to review Impact Wrestling and TNA PPV's
-Someone to review WWE PPV's

It does come with some dedication, although I'm pretty flexible and reviews can be posted anytime between the conclusion of the show and up to the show itself the following week. There is also no need to watch the shows live, just as long as you watch them!

I will be handling the administrative side of things along with writing up articles and working on editing, etc. If you want to contribute you will need to sign up for a wordpress account or use your facebook to log in.

If anyone is interested in the positions available, all I need is a sample of your work like a review of a match. Now this is a big IF...But IF the site gets enough traffic and IF I can attain some level of revenue and IF it is possible, then all contributors to the site will get a proverbial "piece of the action". Since I'm using wordpress as the host, there is no requirement for bandwidth and domain fees, although that might change later down the line depending on how successful the blog turns out to be.

I can give occasional opinion pieces. I still don't watch enough to review.

That's absolutely fine, I need another voice in the opinions area . There is a condition for joining though - you must spam the website address to everyone you know who likes wrestling and/or will regulary view it.

After quickly glancing at the Raw results looks like I didn't miss much. It appears to have been a "self contained episode" and not arc heavy to use television references. This is what I think will be status quo until Nov. They've been arc heavy for so long now that they need to do a couple of regular weeks of programming without anything significant going on.

Okay. I just had a chance to watch Joker Sting Vs Old Man Hogan. WTF type of fucked up ending was that? Also why did Hogan blade for no reason? You can even see him doing it in the corner while Immortal is chair shoting Sting. Hogan lost by submission. There was no reason for him to blade. If the crowd wasn't so crazyily over for this match it would have been a nightmare to watch. They also practically copied the end of the Rock/Hogan Wrestlemania match where he turns face and Rock honours him and pumps up the crowd. My goodness. FUCK THIS COMPANY! *Cornette Face*!

On that note...

I found this.

Just to avoid any confusion, it's not real. But, I thought it was an excellent read and points the direction that iMPACT should be going if they really want to compete with WWE.

I keep reading on other sites about how disappointing WWE is right now after the thing with Punk in the summer not just me but even a few in this thread feel they dropped the ball with that and I read all the time how much TNA sucks and they really proved that at he BFG PPV. I pose this question to all those that frequent this thread...

What 5 things do you expect from a wrestling promotion?

I follow this up with what kind of things do you want to see in a promotion that will keep your interests?

[edit] More food for thought, here is a list of 25 Worst Wrestling Promotions Ever!

WCW is at 25, TNA at 23 and 1 is Combat Zone Wrestling...the list is full of some pretty strange promotions...but for WCW & TNA to be on this freak show list really says something.

[also] http://www.theftwpodcast.com/blog/columns/ways-to-improve-pro-wrestling

I was reading this and the guy brings up some good points. Too many older wrestlers hogging the spotlight, too many titles that mean nothing, push more talent.

DDT shouldn't be on that list! Asides from the Ironman Heavyetalweight Championship, it's actually a fairly serious and competitive promotion. Besides, any promotion that features an inflatable doll giving a guy multiple Canadian Destroyer's is automatically a winner!

I agree with all of the suggestions from the article, especially the Mandatory Retirement Age. Too many veterans who are deluded enough to still think they are what they were twenty years ago and aren't able to let go of the spotlight. Understandable and I'm not picking on anyone specific here even though it's pretty obvious who that was directed at right now. If they still want to stick with the business or be involved then maybe they could be used back stage some how. Or used as managers. It was clear watching the Old Man Hogan Vs Joker Sting match that Hogan DID NOT want to get physical very much if at all because of his physical limitations. This match shouldn't even have been booked. It is also ridiculous putting Jim Ross in matches. I dunno if this part of the business will ever change but it's always been a problem. The veterans still being pushed in main events over younger rising talent has always mystified me. I think we fans are part of this problem as well because we still want to see our heroes from the past involved in some way. This has to stop at some point though.

I think that the mandatory retirement age should only be "mandatory" for full time and part time appearances. The occasional big match every so often is fine because it allows the retired wrestler to get a bit of money, work a light match and create a sense of nostalgia for the fanbase. Obviously, it would need to be subject to passing physical tests (including drug tests) to ensure that the retired wrestler is physically capable of wrestling a match - even one where the opponent does all the work to ensure the retired wrestlers safety.

The age should probably be set at 45 for retirement from full time wrestling with 50 being the age that a wrestler needs to step away from the ring - with the understanding that they will only be allowed to wrestle in occasional matches and with the condition that they pass the necessary tests.

The movie "The Wrestler" should serve as a warning to all in the business. The movie's character makes up for his ageing by increasing his use in steroids, painkillers and whatever else is necessary for him to keep wrestling full time. Eventually it causes him to have a heart attack and he is told that his body can no longer cope with his use of drugs and the punishment he takes in the ring.

Of course, mandatory retirement age will not be a reality unless the wrestling business adopts trade unions, and companies like WWE and TNA start classing their wrestlers as "employees" and not "independent contractors". That legal loophole has always been about saving money more than anything else and it's a very outdated concept that needs rethinking. I think with WWE's status as a public company, they need to do away with it more than anyone else.

I think I would make mandatory just that Admiral M...mandatory. The business part of this problem is exactly why it happens and is a problem in the first place. I understand what you mean regarding special matches and stuff but I would respectfully disagree with you. I don't want to see anyone get seriously hurt...or worse in ring because their condition wasn't what it was several years ago. I guess I'm really passionate about this idea.

The reason many wrestlers never fully retire is because they have no access to a pension of any kind. The business isn't that great for taking care of it's retired talent and for every John Cena, Triple H, Edge and Undertaker who are financially set for life - there are ten, twenty and maybe even thirty career mid carders who have to make a living off conventions, autograph signings and special exhibition matches.

Ric Flair has continued to wrestle (albeit sporadicaly) because 1) He hasn't known a life other than the business and he is addicted to performing and 2) Because he is known to be terrible with managing his finances and wishes to continue living the lifestyle that he is accustomed to. It's a real shame, but that's just the way Ric Flair works and until he realises that he just isn't helping himself by continuing to perform as a wrestle, that's the way it will stay.

I'm all for Ric Flair continuing to work in the business as a manager or other non-wrestling personality. On his good days he can be very entertaining and he has that star quality that can be used to help newer talent get over. But, like I said he needs to call it a day where the wrestling is concerned.

I'm well aware of the pension problem. Again until Vince changes his mind on these things no change will happen and this stuff keeps on happening. Other companies though should be innovative and start enacting change, maybe then Vince will change his stance.Like I said there are all kinds of factors that contribute to this problem and the solution seems pretty easy but until the mentality behind the problem changes there won't be a solution.

TNA is the only other international company that has it's foot in the door, and from the patterns that the company has created it's clear that innovation isn't exactly one of their strong suits. The X-Division is the most innovative thing that TNA has done and even that was heavily inspired by Junior Heavyweight wrestlers from Japan and Mexican Luchadores.

Many of the Japanese promotions treat their employees really well, including paying for their surgery in full and helping them out during their recovery period but the Japanese promotions aren't as big as WWE. Since a lot of TNA's talent isn't fully bound by a contract and recieve a pay-per-appearance figure, their income during a recovery period won't be anywhere near that of a WWE downside guarantee. Some TNA wrestlers continue to perform indie dates in order to supplement their income. So if TNA cannot afford to downside contract their talent, how do they expect to make innovative changes such as offering their employees benefits and better job security?

The obvious solution is for TNA to sort out their booking issues and create interesting programming in order to increase TV ratings and PPV buys which in turn will generate more revenue - but the company doesn't seem too focused on doing this. I do have to admit that the overall quality of TNA has improved though.

You are right though, WWE won't make substanial changes unless they feel a need to do it (usually from pressure) or they are alienated by the changes made by other companies in the business.
