Well I've seen worse efforts by TNA and can honestly say that BFG wasn't actually that bad. The Hogan/Sting match was booked the best way it could be - with lots of outside interference and working the crowd in order to cover up Hogan's lack of mobility. The Hulkster might be well past his prime and physically incapable of wrestling a proper match, but he can still play to the crowd.
Angle/Roode was disappointing and whilst I agree that it makes sense to have Angle continue as champion, I do think that the finish should of been more protecting of Roode. I'm talking about having Roode actually grabbing the ropes (a'la Cena at Summerslam) rather than Angle using them for leverage. The coreography of the match stopped being interesting a third of the way in and the constant reversals and quick kick outs from both men served nothing but to devalue the power of their signature moves (Angle in particular, since one Angle Slam is never enough to put a wrestler away anymore).
The Knockout's match was below average, although the Knockout's did their best to wrestle a competent match with the time and attention (much of the match was centred on Karen Jarrett) alloted to them. I can't disagree with the winner - Velvet Sky, who finally captured the Knockout's Championship.
Austin Aries/Brian Kendrick was a solid X-Division outing that showcased both men's wrestling talents. Aries in particular, has breathed new life into the division and developed a character that the fans can also buy into. Joe/Morgan/Crimson was a mess and judging by the loud boo's after Crimson speared Joe for the win, it would seem that TNA is booking Crimson in the wrong role. An undefeated heel is something that can work, particulary when they annoy the hell out of the fans by bragging about their ability in ring despite the opportunistic methods they've used in order to remain undefeated. In this case, Crimson speared Joe following a knee by Matt Morgan who had hurt himself following the aforementioned knee.
I didn't catch the MA/II match, although it was probably an average outing. I think Hernandez is much more suited to singles competition and the sooner this stable is dissolved, the better his opportunities to break the proverbial glass ceiling and provide the TNA upper mid card/main event scene with a competent wrestler.
The three "hardcore" matches of the evening were resonably good, although they had their standout bad bits. The best of the three was easily Lynn/Van Dam (which Lynn should have won) which showed that both can perform to a high standard no matter what stipulation. The spots at the beginning were very well coreographed and some of the bumps that they took looked brutal. I remember wincing when Lynn hit a Sunset Flip Powerbomb onto the guard rail primed ladder - and the ladder shifted mid move! I actually thought RVD might have knocked his head off the guard rail, but fortunately he didn't and the match continued. Anderson/Ray was a good match and not too spot heavy. Falls Count Anywhere matches aren't the easiest to pull off since they usually involve lots of backstage spots which takes away the momentum when there is no crowd to react to your work. Nonethless it was a good effort and didn't result in a mental juice job.
I was looking forward most to the AJ/Daniels "I-Quit" match and it delivered in the first half where both acted as well as they wrestled as the microphone came into play. It then went downhill when Daniels grabbed the mic and sent a message to AJ's wife telling her that he was going to murder AJ. Not exactly the best of booking ideas and definitely clawing at some boundaries, especially for an international promotion. The finish came when AJ threatened Daniels with a screwdriver and Daniels said "I Quit" and legged it (although he came back to attack Styles on the stage, thus continuing their feud).
All in all, I'd probably give the PPV 5.8/10, it was definitely not TNA's best BFG effort and certainly no where near the quality of it's WWE equivalent - Wrestlemania 27 (which was a pretty half-assed effort anyway). One can only wonder how things will progress from a storyline perspective now that Hogan has turned face...
