wwe vs tnt anyone watching?

I think it is kind of silly putting a limit on what a gimmick is. I understand what you're trying to do...put a list together of pure gimmick characters but I don't think we can subjectively exclude gimmicks that are based on wrestlers own personalities.

In that case (and it's much less restrictive!) I revise my list...

1. Hulk Hogan (American Hero/NWO Leader)
2. The Undertaker (Mortician/Phenom/Cult Leader/Biker/Outlaw)
3. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (Everyman Anti-Hero)
4. The Rock (Arrogant Jock/The People's Champion/Hollywood Star)
5. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair (The New Nature Boy)
6. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase (Ruthless Millionaire)
7. Roddy Piper (Rowdy Scotsman)
8. Sting (Surfer/Crow/Wolfpac/The Icon/Joker)
9. Edge (Rated R Superstar)
10. CM Punk (Straight Edge Superstar/Cult Leader/Outspoken Anti-Hero)

The reason I included CM Punk is because he's been established for many years. He is a world renowned talent and has had many famous feuds in the likes of ROH, TNA and some of the smaller promotions. In the 5 years he has been with WWE, he's achieved almost everything possible (WWE Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, ECW Champion, Tag Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion and a headliner on all brands). Furthermore from 2009 onwards he has been arguably the best promo man in the business.

Edge is another one. From 2004 onwards he propelled himself to the top by turning heel. From 2006 he became the "Rated R Superstar" and he was the most exciting thing going on Raw. Apart from being incredibly over as either face or heel, Edge consistently cut brilliant promos and people really bought into his character.

^ It's okay man, I don't think you needed to explain :) Here is my list now that I've actually thought about it for some length

1. Hulk Hogan (American Hero/Co-Founder and Leader of the nWo)
2. Stone Cold Steve Austin (Anti-Hero)
3. Undertaker (Lord of Darkness)
4. The Rock (Arrogant Jock/The People's Champion/Hollywood Star)
5. The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase (Arrogant Millionaire Tycoon)
6. Shawn Micheals (Rocker/Primadonna Sexy Boy/The Heartbreak Kid/The Showstopper)
7. Sting (Sufer Dude/Crow/The Joker)
8. Roddy Roddy Piper (The Fighting Scotsman/Crazy Guy)
9. CM Punk (Straight Edge Superstar/Outspoken Rebel)
10. Vince McMahon (Personification of Corporate Power)

I did not include Ric Flair since his gimmick was based on Buddy Rodgers. I included Shawn because he's evolved so much and made such an impact. I also included Vince because his Mr. McMahon character proved for I think the first time that promoters themselves could get involved into story lines and make HUGE impact while doing so. He probably should thank Bret and the Montreal screw job for that character since it was that event that really provided the genesis for that character. It has evolved as well from pure heel, to mild face, back to pure heel over the times as well. I was debating about including Trips. He's kind of had unique gimmicks in my opinion. I don't think anyone else in the business would be bold enough to declare himself King of Kings or essentially the King of Wrestling and be serious about it.

I did think seriously about including Vince McMahon in my list. But I didn't think it would be fair because he was never officially a wrestler. Vince's gimmick was used to elevate others. It served as a counterpoint to Steve Austin and many others. He claims to have retired as an on screen character, but the fact is he does such a good job in the role that he's had to keep coming back.

cool list but never really a fan of (Ted Dibiase) I would replace him with either chris jericho or kurt angel.

There is a certain stereotype that wrestlers are mindless brutes. It's actually quite amazing how many intellectuals and academics there are in the business.

Kane: Has a degree in English Literature. Is something of a political commentator and regulary participates at Libertarian functions. You just have to watch any non-kayfabe interview with this guy to see how intelligent he actually is.
John Cena: Very well spoken guy, holds a degree in Exercise Physiology.
The Miz: Studied Business and had a lot of academic focus in high school along with his interest in sport.
Drew Macintyre: Holds a degree in Criminology.
Alberto Del Rio: Holds a degree in Architecture.
Ted Dibiase: Holds a BSc and Business Administration degree.
Beth Phoenix: Holds a degree in Criminal Justice.
David Otunga: Holds a degree in Psychology, attended Harvard Law School and passed the bar exam in Chicago.
Yosh Tatsu: Holds a degree in Political Studies.
Kevin Nash: Studied Psychology and Educational Philosophy.
Evan Bourne: Holds a degree in Business Marketing.
Jack Swagger: Holds a degree in Finance.
Jinder Mahal: Holds a degree in Communications And Culture.
The Rock: Holds a degree in Criminology and Physiology.
Matt Striker: Holds a degree in History and a masters degree in Educational Psychology.

About half this list is redundant due to how they present themselves in character/on camera.

No one is going to believe that The Miz isn't intelligent. I think Kane is the only one on your list that doesn't present himself as intelligent as he truly is due to the limitations of his character.

Let's also not forget Spike Dudley who was a school teacher and loved Shakespeare.
