Writing a fanfic

Well, I'm writing a Star Trek 2009 fanfic. I have a couple questions, I cant seem to find the answers to.

How would you describe the transporting scene? Like are they particles, that make them transport?

Now, who's job is it to watch security of the ship? Chekov or Sulu? I know it's someone up on the bridge.

How long did it take after the fight between Kirk/Spock did it take them to get by Saturn? Days, Hours?

HELP!

From what I understand, a transporter disassembles you atom by atom, beams the stream of atoms to the desired location, and then re-assembles you atom by atom.

Now, who's job is it to watch security of the ship? Chekov or Sulu? I know it's someone up on the bridge.

It is not stated who chief of security is in Star Trek XI. It could be Sulu or Chekov but they have jobs already so I would suggest inventing a new character to make things interesting.

It is never explicitly stated. My guess would be hours since at maximum warp they got to Vulcan in what appeared to be at most an hour and they are only going half that speed back to earth.

Yep, pretty much in a nutshell.

Depends what you mean by security of the ship. For instance, external security (ie weapons, shields etc) would definitely be handled from the bridge, but internal security would be covered by the Chief of Security who doesn't have to be on the bridge (unless they have a tactical console as in Voyager).

Ha! Got me!

The transport process has been described in the past as using matter beams...or particles. At least those are the terms which I have used in past stories I've done. Checkov was the security chief in the original series movies..."Cupcake" seemed to be a Security officer. I'm guessing though that there is no formal Security Officer onboard the Enterprise at least one not shown.

In TOS there was Lieutenant Commander Giotto, who was the highest ranking security officer seen on the Enterprise.

I asked because in the film when Jim and Scotty beam back on to the ship, who was it who notified Spock? That's what I meant. O my! I totally love this site. So much help!

When Scott and Kirk beam back onboard the Enterprise I believe internal sensors pick them up. I think someone told Spock that internal sensors had picked up two intruders in the engineering room, so that could be the security chief on the bridge but I don't know if we actually saw them.

O no. I was wanting to know how they found out. But, yeah I think I remember that part. And the internal sensors, that was another answer. Was it Sulu or Chekov? I will just watch the film again today. =]

I personally think that as an internal security matter the person that should have been informed was Uhura. As comm officer she can monitor and direct security teams to where they need to be.

Just a thought.

As for which position does what, in most Treks, that is quite fluid (often depending on who is on the bridge, what the situation is and if there was a budget for a talking extra). In the TOS fanfic I wrote, I have the Navigator in charge of weapons, the Helmsman as the pilot, a separate Security Chief, and the Comm Officer being a little bit more versatile that just saying "hailing frequencies open sir".

Also, in the alternate universe created by Nero whose to say that ship operations would be the same as in the prime universe? Maybe they have a separate Tactical Officer (there was definately plenty of seats on the bridge).

Okay...I'm kind of basing my fanfic off the 2009 version film. At least up until Spock loses command. Anyways, the situation in the film. Do you think the bridge was automatically notified because they were on high alert?

Yes it is possible that the bridge was automatically notified due to a higher state of alert. In most trek episodes, as I recall, if the ship is not at an alert condition then someone needs to physically see and verbally report an intruder. If they are on alert, internal sensors tend to pick them up quickly.

So, when things are normal, the internal sensors are not actively scanning for intruders, and restricted areas have passive security measures. When at alert the sensors are actively scanning for intruders.
I could be wrong but I think that's how it goes in Trek.
