writers' strike and Trek

Homophobic slurs aside, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (God rot their souls) were basically not vindicated by their demonization of the Screen Actors Guild (aside from being how very sanctimonious and hypocritical the richer celebrities can often be) ...

Except of course for the central fact that the enduring popularity of those two is derived from their skewering of sanctimonious hypocrisy among celebrities and the generally well-situated. Regardless of the specific "issues" addressed in a given bit.

But yeah, they're particularly pernicious purveyors of a Millennial strain of humor.

Same, I used to think they were hilarious and while the show was funny up until around 2015-16 or so it never had the same energy after they did “Team America”. Can’t remember the last time I watched a new ep.

Anyway, I saw the Disney is going to air one of the Marvel streaming shows on ABC later this summer and it got me wondering if we will maybe see Paramount follow suit with Star Trek either Picard or SNW as original content starts to dry up the closer we get to fall.

assuming the strike is still going in 3-4 months.

I've always found them very funny, but their style became repetitive and I haven't sat down and watched one of their shows in probably five years.
This. They became way too cynical and too adherent to the idea of "both-siderism" that basically water-downed any messages their plots had. At least when they were Republicans, you knew where they stood. Watching commercials for the show now, it seems the "comedy" is stuck on autopilot too.

You mean on CBS? I guess it's possible. It certainly makes sense that they'd want to. They might show all the streaming Trek series on the network, though I wonder what they'd do with the ones that are too long or too short to fit a normal one-hour time slot with ads. I guess that's why ABC's Ms. Marvel showings are three in one night.

And as I said in the Marvel thread, if the rebroadcasts on network TV get the writers higher residuals than they're getting from the streamers, that's great.

Yeah, I meant on CBS sorry.

I would guess shows would probably have to be edited a bit anyway for some language and such.

It would be interesting to see what would get cut from a streaming ep to fit the 42-45 minutes of content they get on broadcast. Would they cut the 2 minute long credit sequences?

Probably, though of course they'd be required to superimpose the cast/crew credits over the first act like most modern network shows.

I'm wondering more about the really short episodes, like that episode of Discovery's Mirror Universe arc that was only 30-some minutes. I guess they could just cram in a lot more commercials, but that would be annoying.

an episode that short they might see if they can trim some stuff from the ep directly before and the ep directly after to pad it out and at least get close so they aren’t doing 5 minute commercial breaks.

didn’t Picard S1 and 2 have a few short episodes too.

Here's also a list of things SAG members can work on during the strike

I notice Video Games are listed on the first one, so Star Trek Online might not be effected. STO has a SAG contract, and can only hire SAG actors.

Honestly, I felt Discovery's 4-part Mirror Universe arc could've easily been three episodes, or even just two. It had a lot of padding.

That's assuming Disney doesn't find a way to get out of having to pay the full network residual price.

Looks like CBS is gonna air Yellowstone this fall. Maybe it’s not too far fetched that Trek could show up as well.

Apparently flunkies from Universal Studios hired ground keepers to heavily trim the long row of trees (to expose the workers on strike to direct sunlight) and this nasty, petty gesture is an act of public vandalism.
