Wristwatches

I have a Pulsar:

First watch I picked out myself, saw a commercial of it once and spend a few months looking for it in the stores. Have had it for years now and still very happy with it. So happy that I've been wearing it even though the battery ran out a week ago.

I suppose most people think a wristwatch is redundant when the time is displayed on their cell phone, despite the extra effort required to raise it into viewing position.

I was wearing one of those radio control "atomic" wristwatches that corrects itself every night based on a data from a government radio broadcast. Unfortunately I have to take the band off to change the battery and the band has been coming off ever since! When I reattach the band it looks like the pins are properly engaged and the plastic around the holes doesn't look damaged enough to be a problem, but the band comes off a few hours later anyway. I've been carrying it in my pants pocket since, but I suspect that will scratch the "crystal" up in a short time.
For me, it's a cheapo wristwatch every time (pardon the pun). We aren't allowed to wear wristwatches at work, though, due to infection control policy, so I simply sling mine around my badge holder. It does pose a dilemma when it comes to clinical skills exams, where we have to keep time e.g. measuring a patient's pulse, yet still have to adhere to strict infection control rules.

My watch of choice is an inexpensive digital watch, often a Casio or a Timex, but I also have a more expensive watch for special occasions (it was a gift).
Unless you are very careful to never handle the watch with a hand that has touched the patient or items the patient has handled since you last washed you hands, wouldn't the watch on the badge holder transfer infections from patient to patient?

When my mother was in the hospital there were wall clocks with sweep second hands in every room for things like this. Battery powered quartz wall clocks aren't very expensive.

Pascal only used string to tie a pocket watch to his wrist, it wasn't a proper wristwatch.

It seems that I am not actually correct about this person being the first to wear a wristwatch. Some wristwatch were worn by women before this man started wearing one for a very specific reason. He was the first to wear a wristwatch made for men.

I just bought a £13.99 casio from Amazon. I nearly always wear a watch. I'm not a jewellery kinda guy, but I like to know the time. I'd rather go with something cheap and functional than expensive with pointless things on it that I'd never use.

I've worn a simple Timex watch since I was about 6 or 7 years old. Heck I even sleep with the sucker on. I really can't do without it, it's hard to know how often I check it until it's not there. There have been times when I've left it at home after a shower and I find myself checking every 10-15 minutes only to find it's not there!

Same here. I hate it when I do that.

If they ever make a watch that works and displays time like this...

... I'd love one.

But someone mentioned pocketwatches? I love those.

Maybe they could make a pocketwatch like the above.
Funky, wouldn't mind having one of those on the wall.

Okay folks, here's one: How many of you wear you watch on the underside of your arm, on the bottom of you wrist and not the top?

I do this a lot when I busy for some odd reason. Don't know where I picked up the habit, but if I'm costly on the go for the day, I'll roll the face around to the bottom of my wrist.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for the quiz...

I used to wear a watch all the time when I was in school and during my undergraduate studies. I avoided wearing one during the summer when I did not have to, because of the annoying tan-line on my wrist.

Now that I don't have a strict schedule, I don't wear a watch. I always have a computer or a cell-phone around, so I can know the time.

I always where mine under, my watch always used to slip round, and I just got used to it there, so I left it.

this is my watch I got about a year and a half ago
it's both analog and digital

and this one I got for my 18th birthday, and the battery has since ran out twice, thus I got the above watch

I haven't been without a watch for about 15 years
I've had an original Timex Ironman Triathlon, a second gen Ironman Triathlon, the Dakota, and now my current Timex

I wear mine on my right wrist (I'm a lefty) with the face on top

For me, it just doesn't feel right if I'm not wearing a watch:)

The one I'm currently using is a citizen Eco-Drive.

I've got a couple of Fossil watches I alternate between that I wear during the work week.

I met for lunch with a colleague yesterday wearing a Breitling Automat Chronometer. Nice looking watch.

I spent a semester in Rome as an undergraduate. One of my classmates wore his watch like that.

A group of us were travelling one weekend via train. The train stopped at the Austrian border for an extended period of time.

My friend looked at his watch to see how long we'd been sitting there. To do so, he raised his arm and pulled his jacket sleeve down at the elbow. Unfortunately for him, and Italian caribinieri officer walking down the corridor at the same time thought the gesture was meant for him.

After about 10 minutes of cursing and screaming, the officer moved on.

I've always worn a watch and wouldn't feel completely dressed without one. Currently wearing a Citizen multi-function Alarm Chronograph model my old man gave me as a birthday gift a few years back. Does all sorts (it's user manual is the size of a small paperback novel) but I only use it's basic functions. I've worn them on both left and right wrists at various times in my life (even though I'm right handed), but always facing up.

Suddenly, I wish I wore a watch!

I haven't worn one since college days. As I got older and spent more time at a computer, the watch began to get in my way when typing, and I finally got fed up. I have a little clip-on watch attached to my purse, and also will use my cell phone to tell the time.

As a general rule, though, I have a pretty good idea of the time even without a timepiece. If someone asks me the time, I would guess that 90% of the time my estimate will be within 15 minutes of the actual time. I suspect that's more a function of never being far from having seen a clock than of having a good innate sense of the passage of time, but it's a fun party trick. ;)

I've always owned a watch, never anything expensive though. It's a silver, metal-band Timex Expedition analog/lcd combo watch with a blue face. I bought it about seven years ago... the longest I've owned a single watch.

I used to wear it religiously although I haven't worn it much in the last few months as it's problematic with long-sleeve shirts and I've been content using my phone to tell time. I do like wearing a watch though and when money permits I would like to buy a new one, something fancier in the $300 range.
