WoW - Musings & Discussion

a bunch of friends and i started a super casual group... 5 Blood Elf Paladins. we're probably going to run our first instance this week. but just leveling up has been a blast. It's Hammer Time!

My first time trying to tank on my warrior back in vanilla was in Gnomer, as well. I do like the instance more than most, but that first experience was pretty bad. I tend to like Sunken Temple, too, though that's more for the trolls.

I love ST outside the fact that it takes too long to run all of it. Of course you don't have to do that, but the class quests are scattered all over and that's what folks are mostly there for these days. Interesting layout, lore, wonderfully foreboding atmosphere, decent drops since the itemisation pass a year or so back; so what if it's easy to get lost? Lrn2Navigate.

I thought Orcs had the MC Hammer dance? ;)

That's actually not the first time I've heard (or seen) that. I myself have been in a 10-man druid raid. Good fun.

As for my day in WOW... logged on to my resto druid for the first time in a few weeks and 10-man raided Eye of Eternity. We downed him on the first go around, but we had a few first timers, so there were a few issues, we got to the third phase a tad late, and lost the newbs right away... he did enrage, and all ten raiders died, but the DOTs did kill him... good enough for phat lootz.

And now I am downloading Warhammer Online... :p

^ Priorities, man. The current Tauren Cat Form is hideous, Tree of Life looks quite decent, albeit not nearly as lively as one might expect.

I stumbled across this ToL concept a while back, perfect for a grouchy Night Elf:

I like the new models, however I wish they'd have them upgrade over time as you level/respec. For example, if you tag a few of the Tank talents, your bear will look a bit meaner, a bit nastier, a bit larger than a Resto Druid in Bear form.

Speaking of Druids, the new form models coming next patch look great. :techman:

FFS, those look great, but how about new character models for the races?

Unless you're a BE or Draenei my garage has more curve than you do. My undead 'lock walks around looking like a limping block of wood! People have been complaining about this since BC launched....

Same with pets and demons. I wish my Voidwalker looked more like the mobs at void ridge in Hellfire, crackling with dark energy and whatnot. Maybe bigger gauntlets, size, etc. Or a hunter's pet is practically a pup at lvl 1 but at 80 he's this big wolf with a scarred eye and spiked hair or something, I dunno.

Rii has finished off Duskwood and is now taking a quick detour to Ashenvale before heading off to Stranglethorn Vale. My favourite zone in the game. :D

That would've been great, but in truth I'm simply grateful that they've finally deigned to give the issue any attention at all. Blizzard seems to have some very skewed priorities when it comes to these things. Apparently designing a new trash mob for Ulduar that perhaps one-tenth of the playerbase will see for a few months takes priority over that which everyone sees every time they login.

I think this'll happen eventually, hopefully it'll be presented as an optional update for those fond of the subtle details of the current models. Druids are definitely a higher priority though, they can't distinguish themselves visually from others whilst in form like other classes can through gear, hairstyle, etc.

It's supposed to look like that, you're a skeleton with some necrotic flesh attached.

I love the one with the shawl and lanterns, totally badass. :techman:

Eh, the Hunter pets do get larger as they level. Given the wide variety of pets available to tame one can't really ask for much more.

^I know, but given the number of people who work on the game one would think simple things like skins would be relatively easy to implement. Relative to game play mechanics or instance creation and balancing, or even adding an NPC, for example.

Doing something like upgrading an entire character model is obviously more work tthan creating some new textures, but people have been asking about it for years. They could have done it with 3.0 but they didn't. Blizz is genius for keeping the minimum specs low, but they allow in game graphics to scale dramatically and the minimum specs are higher than they used to be.

WoW's dev team is actually fairly small by MMO standards. The size of its customer service team, however, is unparalleled.

I do agree that more should be done on the character side of things. The absence of class-specific content in BC or WOTLK, with the obvious exception of the superlative Death Knight intro, is something that really hurts the game and the sense of the progression of one's character within it, I think.

So Rii is now in the level range appropriate for Scarlet Monastery. What I want to know is who designed the Alliance quest for that zone and why wasn't it retuned when the dungeon itself was a year or so back? First you have to fly to Desolace, which is a bloody long way from either the Scarlet Monastery or Alliance territory. The quest ultimately involves runs of the Library, Armoury, and Cathedral wings, however it can only be obtained at Level 35, a level at which one could quite reasonably have run the first two those three wings already. Worse, the intermediary quest involves fighting Level 38 mobs with high resistances to magic and silencing kick ability. As a Warrior I had no trouble with the latter qualities, whilst the sheer unkillability of Prot allowed me to overcome the level difference without any hassles, but a Level 35 Priest would have major problems. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

And when people ask about getting a reroll at level 55 ala DK's they claim that vanilla WOW leveling still has value to it... I've leveled through the 60 and under stuff enough times I see no value to it. Sure it might help to learn the class but if you've already leveled a class once, why force us to do it again?

My wow day was good. Did a few Tourney dailies. Sold a Black Tabby for 1200g. Ran SV to get Cenarion rep for the hippogryph. I don't think I've ever seen a single person on my server with that mount.

I've seen a few people with it but more people seem to have the harder to get mounts than the Hippo which is odd.

The 2000g price tag probably scares people away. Most of the other faction mounts just cost grinding time.

^I'm so over that androgynous, emo-haired anime look in video games it's not funny. See new FF games as well. You can barely tell the difference between the women and the men except the women typically have giant cans.

It's funny you say that, because half the people I know have the cenarion hippo. Well, pretty much anyone who was around and played through BC. The price tag is only daunting to people who didn't spend any time farming gold, even in BC 2kg wasn't that much. And if you ran a lot of heroics the rep shouldn't have been an issue.

And I'm only 14 emblems from getting my Argent Hippo. :)

The only thing barring me from getting it on like 3 or 4 characters is laziness in getting the rep. I'm at revered with one (honored and near revered with others) and may finish it out just to say I have the hippo on someone (also happens to be my mount collector toon) but there are IMO better mounts to strive for now anyways.

Yeah, even back in BC days 2k gold wasn't a lot. IMO it was for a mount but when you can do 25 dailies and get somewhere between 2-300 gold a day, still not a lot

I can actually get the Argent Hippo too but I'm saving up for other items instead.

Bought the Nobles Deck today. 4500g, which is a good price on my server. Now I just gotta wait for the Faire to stop somewhere to turn it in. Got ahold of the Death Deck last week, so I think I'm set on trinkets now. :)

Cenarion rep is going very slowly. It's hard to find groups for Heroic SV nowadays. Sporeggar is easy because you can just buy it. A few gold worth of Sanguine Hybiscus gets you 750 rep, and there's always some on the AH. Halfway through Revered at the moment. The Spore Bat is gonna be pet #62. :)

Tanked Uldaman today. Group consisted of two Warriors, Rogue, Hunter, Mage. No healer. Had one partial wipe (the Mage and I bought it) after a bad pull which turned into a boss pull, and a few other close shaves, but we made it. Archaedus has been severely nerfed, for which I'm grateful.
