Wow, Kirsten Beyer made VOY not suck!

Hmmm. I never thought Voyager sucked, I loved it and adored Janeway.

I am crushed she is dead, but I reluctantly read Full Circle and really enjoyed it. Kirsten Beyer is a very articulate and imaginative writer, and I like how she wove stuff from the series and the Golden books into "Full Circle" and advanced the new Voyager story.

I wasn't predisposed to like any new characters, but I think Eden has potential, and I really liked Cambridge (although still no clue why he was so insolent with Chakotay in the beginning). I really like the Chakotay character development.

I know I will miss Janeway and I am deeply upset she was killed, but hopefully she'll come up again in the crew's memories or vision quests or dreams. And maybe one day someone will figure out how to resurrect her. But I will keep reading as long Kirsten Beyer is writing b/c I've read all the Voyager books and she by far comes closest to recreating in her books the Voyager crew I grew so fond of.

Kirsten, in some other thread you mentioned there would be a little appendix in the back that listed the other ships, their classes, crew complements and such, but are you at liberty to share that information with us here, now, for those of us who are preparing to take another swing through "Full Circle" and "Unworthy"? As a fan of the ships, I enjoy knowing what class they are and other minutiae while reading the books.

If you tell me I have to wait until CotS, I will understand. But I've never been good with delayed gratification.

Sorry, but you have to wait until CotS. It's not that there's anything particularly spoilery about this information, but I'm not at liberty to release it until the novel comes out.

I'm confused, I thought Batiste was just one member of his species (8472, Groundskeeper, Undine or whatever the hell you want to call them) who was accidentally left behind. I didn't think anything to do with a plot by them or anything like that . But I haven't read the book since it first came out, so I could be forgetting something big.

^No, JD, you're right. Batiste was a loose end from a long-abandoned scheme.

Not exactly. Batiste wasn't "accidentally" left behind. It was suppose to be a one way trip. It was one of the reasons why Valerie(?) was hesistant to let him back into fluidic space. He had a duty to do. That; and the fact she was worried about him corrupting their space.

The rest is true though; about the scheme being abandoned.

if there's one thing that I was slightly disappointed in with Beyer's novels, it's that Captain Eden didn't stay in command of Voyager longer, since there was, IMO, a lot of storyline potential to be mined in terms of character interaction between her and the ship's existing crew, but am hoping that she'll still be utilized in some fashion in "Children of the Storm".

I am slighty dissapointed as well, however Chakotay deserves to be in the Captians chair and I want to see how tom will develop as first officer as he was my fav character on Voyager

While I watched all of Voyager as it aired in its first run from 95-01, I always found it to be up and down and frustrating to watch. I attributed much of that to the fact that Paris and Tuvok were my favorite characters and always seemed underutilized. I purchased Beyers's novels and loaned them to a guy I worked with who loved Voyager and raved about these novels. I finally decided to give them a shot and I'm about half way done with Full Circle. I have really enjoyed it so far. I agree with some of the earlier posts that Beyer seems to have taken Voyager to a different level. I really like Paris now being the First Officer and Chakotay being in command.

Have you read the Titan books? They do some great stuff with Tuvok in those books.

If everyone had stayed in the same job it would be boring, and I like the way most relaunch novels have made characters progress (Kim to Security, Paris to XO, Nog to Cheif of Operations) without it being "what the f___" like they did to the Westley Crusher character in TNG or to Sisko at the end of DS9.

Then we do have the really great ones, like "The Black Shore" by Greg Cox (excellent), "Marooned" by Christie Golden (excellent), "Her Klingon Soul" by Michael Jan Friedman (fantastic) and all the rest of those great masterpieces.

The trouble is, At some points it did suck a lot "Ex Post Facto" and "Emanations" Come to mind from season one alone. Thats not to say there wern't some very good episodes mixed in, and i would never have stopped watching it, There were just more dodgy ones then DS9

If it was confined to season one then i would understand as all series go though stages like that ( except the allmighty BSG ) But even in Season 6 and 7 there are more dodgy episodes then there are good ones. The Haunting of deck 12 comes to mind for that ( Neelix makes it alll up , That was an hour of my life i wont ever get back!

Yes, I did watch the show. I have seasons 1-3 on DVD and have re-watched them several times. In fact, I will re-watch "Caretaker" this evening.

Voyager's first three seasons were magnificent!

Not to mention the Voyager seasons 1-3 books which are excellent!

Er I don't believe that's correct. As I recall, the last scene on the bridge makes it quite clear he lied to the kids when he said he made it all up.

Apologies, but that's not what I'm saying. You said he made it all up. I said he lied when he said he made it all up. The last scene pretty much tells the audience (although it is open to interpretation) that the story Neelix tells the kids was in fact true.
