WOW expansion is near

In another thread I talked about how the people who play WOW are totally dedicated to this game..the raids, the instants, all that...Me? I don't play, at all, but I love to watch two or three of them interact..its like watching some other culture talking in their own words at time..fascinating..

Now it would seem that the new expansion is coming out next week or so. So they are all leaving this guild and joining that guild..they are applying here and there and getting set to go to some new continent and do what ever they do...

Are any of you TREKBBS people into this game? If so, I think its a pretty cool fan set. Most of the friends of mine who play are educated folks who do this rather than go to bars or become hooligans (I work with a lot of younger guys, so I see this alot)

I am looking forward to the expansion, lots of changes with the new patches lately.

I dunno... I sort of want the expansion, but I am also a bit ambivalent. Maybe I'll get it in December.

i'm excited! i've played parts of the beta and have had a lot of fun with it. the new class, Death Knight, has an awesome starting experience. i am torn between starting a Death Knight with my wife, or leveling our mains... i'd bet that we'll play our mains first though...

I've got it on pre-order and will be picking it up at midnight launch day. I'm already in a raiding guild working on Illidan right now.

The patch yesterday finally nerfed ret pallys, thank God. And they made warlocks more survivable, which was nice for me.

It will be really nice to work on new content though, not just the end game stuff but all the new 70-79 instances, gear, quests and towns.

And I'm actually looking forward to the couple of days leading up to launch day and launch day itself quite a lot, before the last expansion all sorts of crazy shit happened in Azeroth. I've heard a rumour that Stormwind and Ogrimmar are going to get burned to the ground or attacked en masse, but it's just rumours. A visit to the major cities by some level 85 bosses or something isn't out of the question though, it happened last time. But I think the current scourge invasion (first the zombies now the floating castles and demons) is just the beginning.

There's a lot I'm looking forward to in the expansion, like the Death Knights. I've played through their starting area a couple of times as both Horde and Alliance characters in beta. It was a blast.

I'm probably going to wait a bit before picking it up, though. I've been needing a break from the game, and there are so many other games that I've bought in the last couple of years that I need to catch up on.

I started playing in August, and dinged 64 (dwarf hunter, trying very hard to learn the class and not be a "huntard" ;)) the other day. I'm in no hurry to buy the expansion when it comes out, since the Death Knight starting area is going to be SWAMPED. Once I approach 70 I'll pick it up so I can keep going right into 71 without any downtime. :D

I'm looking forward to Northrend and the new Death Knight class. BTW, I finished exploring all the known lands, Outland and what's available in Azeroth, with my lvl 70 undead warrior.

LOL, Everquest and it's holy trinity! hahaha.

Got started with the original EQ and have tried TONS on MMO's since then and the only one's I've really enjoyed are EQ and EQ2.

I just don't like the playstyles, UI's looks and feel of other games at all. I SOOOO wanted to like LoTR because I like the books immensely but it just feels like a WoW clone that has LoTR looks.

Gve EQ2 a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'll be getting the expansion the day it comes out. I can't wait. I have an ele shaman I'll be leveling to 80 as fast as fast as possible. I have the week off the expansion hits, so that'll be playtime for me. :)

I'm a draenei elemental shaman, and she is my first and only true love in that game. From what I've observed, I am the best ele shaman on our server(in almost all S3/S4 pvp gear), and I'm proud of it. I hope to continue hitting like a semi truck at level 80. (Plus I will have greater resistance to silence effects and have CC at lvl 80, wheeeee!)

My roommate is probably the best rogue on our server(almost all S4 gear, and suprememly skilled), and I frequently run with him in BG's. We have had horde players literally kill themselves rather than face us. XD (That's after we killed them a dozen or so times without them even touching us) We've burned down warriors with 15k hit points in 2 seconds flat. I hope we can continue that explosive streak.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to this expansion. But I'm a pvp'er, and that colors all my opinions of anything in the game.

I am curious what your opinion is on the future of Elemental Shamans going into the expansion? I hear mixed things. I know I'm certainly not thrilled with my Shaman post-3.0 cause I feel like a lot of my damage is meant to be based around Lava Burst which I won't get until level 75. It just feels like there is a noticeable hole in my build now that wasn't there before the recent content patch.

Anyway, I have my level 70 Elemental Shammy and I am curious to hear your take on the future of that particular build.

Well, regardless of anything, ele shamans still hit freakin hard. My eye is almost entirely towards pvp, so I'm biased towards things good for that. But ele shamans still have fast-casting mana efficient lightning bolt and chain lightning. The changes to spell pushback make those a lot more doable in PVP.

Fire nova totem stuns people now, which s great, even if you can't shorten the fuse on it anymore. If you drop that, and an enemy decides to kill it, it's one less instant attack coming at you. And if they don't, it AoE stuns EVERYONE for two seconds. Enough time to get in a few more thousand damage.

And thunderstorm. Thunderstorm is the shit. It REALLY helps with the annoying rogues and warriors. Frost shock them, throw them away, then unload while they saunter back up to you at a slow pace. Gives ele shamans a major edge in pvp. Plus, it's damage is respectable and it gives you mana, never a bad thing.

In addition to our improved abilities to deal with melee classes, we also still have awesome disruption against casters. Earth shock, wind shock, and grounding totems throw monkey wrenches around like crazy. Plus tremor totem is great against the fear-happy jerks. Priests and Locks beware.

Finally, at level 80, shamans get Hex and Lava Burst. Lava Burst is simply another spammable damage spell, but it's not in the nature school, so things that silence won't totally shut you down anymore. And Hex. Hex is polymorph, but for shamans. Hex the healer, explode the threat. That's all you gotta do. Ele shaman burst damage is so insane that we will only need the 2-3 seconds hex provides to annihilate someone.

Also, well-geared ele shamans are extremely survivable now. Their shields give them massive armor, and they take a third less damage while stunned silenced or feared. Rogues, locks, and priests used to destroy me, now I laugh at them while weathering their stuns and fears and then ripping them a new one. Adding a crap-ton of resilience only makes it that much funnier.

So yeah, stick with Ele to 80. You will be able to dual spec as a healer as well(with no changes to gear), which makes you incredibly versatile. And they are just so funny in pvp. So many people still view ele shamans as hapless victims, but they won't when we're flinging them around like ragdolls, soaking up their hardest hits, and shooting HUGE damage at them all the while.
