I loved Northern Exposure and always hoped that we would get a return to Cicily, Alaska. I do seem to recall talk of a revival around 10 years ago or so, and it's a shame it never materialized. I've actually been to Roslyn where they filmed the show twice.

Damn, that's awesome. I'm long overdue for a rewatch so maybe I'll join them on this endeavor.

I do wonder/worry how well the show has aged. I always felt like it did a decent job of capturing Alaska life (day and night cycles aside), including the Native tribes, but perhaps that's rose-tinted glasses talking.

I’m about halfway through the first episode. It’s fun to hear them “together” again, but Janine’s need to mention God to an excess is a little grating.

I need to do a rewatch of the series as well. It was must-see tv for me back in the day. I did drop off once Joel left. It just seemed lile they were trying too hard to make up for his absence.

I've heard/read stories that Janine Turner, who very ultra conservative, clashed with Barry Corbin, who is ultra liberal, to the point that towards the end, they would film their scenes separately, then splice them together.
I've heard that's one of the reasons the reboot didn't get very far, apart from a vague announcement - no one wanted to work with Janine.
Anyway, the town of Rosyln, about 90 minutes East of Seattle, on the Eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains, is still the same as it was when Northern Exposure first filmed there. The city planners have made sure that there are no major developments leading into town, preserving the historic identity of the town.

That's neat to hear. I seem to remember early on, the town was a little hesitant to embrace its new found fame, but I guess as time has gone on and the tourism rush slowed down, they learned to take it in stride. Much like Roswell and the whole UFO thing. For years, it was just this thing, but the tourism really ramped up in the 90s around the 50th anniversary, and renewed international interest with the UFO phenomena.

The last time I was there, which was a while ago actually now that I think about it, Joel's office was now a gift shop and untouched on the outside and the radio station set was untouched and visible from the street. There were still aspects of Ruth Anne's store in place as well. The Brick was still there, but the interior on the show was a set and not the actual bar. Of course, the big Roslyn painting with the moose is still there.
