I was watching the BTS for Blake's Seven, the SFX "engineer' was explaining how he made this Spaceship once out of gluing two hairdryers together and painting them silver.
The original TV show of hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy had the opportunity to fudge our brains, but they didn't understand the what they had. It 'seems' as if they were using the most expensive up to date computer modelling for the book, but what was really happening were cartoons. It was the BBC, of course they couldn't afford computers. Now if they were using cartoons and pretending they had computers, they could have just as easily faked CGI from the 90s or even "now" way back in 1981.
