Would you swap your present life for life on the Enterprise?

sure... i'd do it...

not as if you can't come back if you get fed up there... most Trek ships spend enough time around the 20th / 21st century anyway, or run into time travel along the way... so you can always hitch a ride home if needed lol

M

Just hop off when they do the next 21st century ep. Or a parallel earth in the early 21st century. Close enough, eh?

Hell, that might even be better. If life was better for the two of us on a parallel Earth, I might even rethink my wish to go live on the Enterprise. At least as long as that other Earth had Star Trek level medicine.

Nice place to visit. Wouldn't want to live there.
1. Most of us couldn't do the math to qualify to be on the Enterprise.
2. Despite the cute hairdos, like on an aircraft carrier or other naval vessel the days are 12,14,16 hours long. No woman has the time to do her hair!
3. Think about Picard and Kirk. Think about what demanding @$$holes they would be! You have to be PERFECT to be on a starship. Ditch all the gooey thinking about "acceptance" and about "everybody contributes what they can." Nuts! That's for the commune not for Starfleet.
4. Being locked in a tin can is for submariners. They are screened psychologically for it. Give me fresh air, sunshine, trees and my garden, thank you very much.

Well...

1: Math was my best subject, so it's no problem. If I can handle doing mathematics and hyperdiamensional physics, I can handle that. Plus I doubt all of them are perfect in mathematics, I doubt security does....especially with "Cupcake" in JJ Trek....that neither math, nor physical fitness is a requirement for that. :rommie:
2: Gotta stop thinking of the military of today and comparing it with Starfleet, and I highly doubt they pull 12-16 hour days.
3: I don't see Kirk or Picard barking and shouting like morons as they do in the army, and we seen the crew not being 100% perfect, and still doing well. I don't see any Starfleet captains making crewmen drop and do 50 pushups or tying them to a bulkhead and whipping them with a leather lash. All the stuff you mentioned in #3 is more likely to be seen in Starship Troopers.
4: Since when did a Starfleet ship look and feel like a claustrophobic's nightmare? They look rather comfy, especially TNG ships. And with conservatories, botanical gardens and holodecs, would be easy to relax in nature if one wanted to.

Hello everyone - just joined this board - looking forward to talking Trek with you all.

This is a good question - the way i feel right now the answer would probably be 'yes' but only if i had a job which did NOT require wearing a red shirt but which DID involve being able to explore the odd new planet now and again.

In theory, I'd love to live on DS9 ( post war ) such an exciting hub of activity. However, if swapping to life in the star trek universe involved severing contact with everyone I know and never seeing them again, then I'd likely stay right where I am,

Yes, faster then warp 10. I would go either D or E, although I would not mind, as already stated, going through the academy and working my way up.
