I like that idea about as much a Klingon likes tribbles. So, nothing. If it's done by Paramount, there's no reason it shouldn't be on TV. In any case, it would have to be based around all original characters, no recasting.

I can buy an episode of television from iTunes or Amazon Unbox for $1.99. For an original to download (i.e something that was not subsidized by ad revenue from a TV airing) "episode" I might be willing to pay a little more, say $3.99...BUT I would expect a professional quality release: a good script, quality actors, and competent effects.

I wonder if there is any way to gage what the price of something like this should be. Imagine if they did a slam-bam top notch production at a lost of, oh, $150,000 an episode. That should be enough for something like this. Would enough fans 'pay' to justify a worthy enough budget? I am not sure. Are there 200,000 fans out there willing to pay $1.99 for an episode? I don't think so..well..not now. If and when the new movie is a hit? Maybe..

Well, we've recently had a peak at how something like this might work with Joss Whedon's Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog. $3.99 for three episodes totaling about 42/43 minutes--the average length of an Amercian TV program minus commercials.
I think the going rate for an hour (read 43 minutes) of telelvision entertainment is anywhere from $1.99 on iTunes to, as mentioend above, $3.99. I'd probably subscribe and prepay for a season of a new Trek show at those rates. I do not, however, think the market has yet evolved to the point where such an approach could be profitable.

That said, I would put down good money for a direct to DVD Trek miniseries or series of films if they were of decent quality production-wise. How much? How much do they want?

Well...it would have to be a good story and NOT a green-screen crapshoot like BAB-5 was recently....I'd pay for Direct to DVD...so count me in!!!

I'm amazed that people are going for that. What I saw didn't even look like it was worth downloading for free. But keep in mind, it has well-known professional names attached to it, to give it credibility.
If you want to cater to a niche market, here's the strategy: give them something they couldn't get from the professionals.
And what that something would be, I do not know, other than porn.

My kneejerk response is no; but if they provided the first episode free of charge so I could make up my mind about wanting to continue to follow the series... then I'd watch that and decide.
But it'd have to be damn good for me to say yes.
