Would you have preferred the conspiracy bugs (TNG s1) over the Dominion?

I am confused here.
The Bugs do not kill their host (although phasers to the head do a great job!). as shown by Admiral Quinn being a host during the episode and then being shown in good health at the end of Conspiracy.

He was?

Shows how going off memory is problematic.

Yeah, apparently after the queen in Remmick was killed the other bugs just vanished from their hosts - Picard said something about how they'd never know how many individuals were infiltrated.

Even if they were supposed to kill their hosts they could have just retconned it, no one would have cared. Shoot, the Ceti eels were absolutely supposed to kill their hosts, but the one in Chekov left for reasons (probably starving to death, lol).

From what I understand the bugs were only briefly considered until they realized they bugs kill their hosts, so they were replaced with enemy changelings since they could bring in legacy characters and not kill them.

“I do like the conspiracy bugs, I did consider for a hot minute, the conspiracy bugs,” Matalas continued. “The issue with the conspiracy bugs is they kill their host. So that would mean anyone that you saw with a bug in them was dead, and you wouldn’t be able to do the paranoia thriller that you wanted to do if it was somebody you loved, that meant they were dead. So there [were] about three storylines I couldn’t do without killing legacy characters.”

Wrong.

Admiral Quinn never died, as Beverly only stunned him . She even says he was expected to make a full recovery. While Remmick died due to the high phaser setting Riker was using. And the mother creature was killed which killed all the other parasites, but not the people infested with them.

So, if they wanted to make it a story where Deanna Troi and Beverly Crusher try to find a nonviolent solution based around their talents and abilities, while Picard, Riker and Worf want to use a lethal solution to the parasites, and Data and Geordi take the middle ground, they could have done that. They just chose not to.
