Would you have liked to see Jadzia on season 7?

JesterFace

Fleet Captain
Commodore
There's the question Niners, do you think it would've been better if Jadzia had stayed on the show through the entire run of DS9?

While Ezri brought something new to the show, bringing in a new character so late in the series run, just for one season, wasn't the best choice.

Jadzia was there for 6 years, I think it would've been nice to have her around all the way.
Jadzia for half, Ezri for the other half of the show would have made more sense... but contracts and disagreements didn't work that way.

Jadzia was never my favorite so I was ok with her leaving and not showing up again. I did like Ezri much better.

I think she should have stayed.

Not that I loved Jadzia, but it was just weird having Ezri replace her. Her death kind of fell flat, and the only thing that came out of it was a bunch of episodes where Worf was miserable, because yet again, they killed off a woman who he loved.

Ezri had no depth at all. She was just a 90s-quirky-bubbly fill-in character. She might as well have been on 7th Heaven or Dawson’s Creek. I just didn’t get anything out her joining the cast and it was a distraction from the overarching plot. I’m glad Bashir finally met someone but that could have happened with someone they didn’t spend episodes on.

Nothing against Jadzia or Ezri, or Farrell or de Boer for that matter, but season 7 was a terrible time to start with a new character. It would have been better to promote reoccurring characters, particularly Yates and Garrak.

Maybe there was too much "lets get to know Ezri" episodes on the last season when the show was about to end and stories should've been about that.

As a character I think Ezri was much more interesting than Jadzia. To me Jadzia came off as a know it all and she was too good at everything. I understand she had several lifetimes of experience but so did Ezri and she didn't come off that way at all. I actually loved her nerdy gooberness and thought she was really complex.

What I wonder is why Ezri wasn't introduced earlier as an initiate, with Jadzia being her field docent, as she was for Arjin. Come to think of it, if people wanted the next host to be male, why not have it be Arjin himself?

https://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Arjin
Not really an option given the nature of Terry's departure, unfortunately.
I would have been up for Arjin being the successor, but there's a reasonable amount of concern that we then would have been left with one female principal character.

Jadzia's character had been pretty messed up in the middle seasons. It wasn't the actress's fault, just the writing. Replacing her with Ezri breathed new life into Dax. It was better than going on with "Worf is awesome, he broke my collarbone while we were plotting to murder one of his associates while we were 'exersizing.. yes.. reminds me of the gold old days when I was Curzon and I was awesome. Hey Benjamin, remember that time when I was awesome? I remember this one time when I was awesome that we both went to this bar.."

I don't think there was any fixing Dax short of a complete character overhaul. The actress leaving combined with the unique species he played made it do-able.

No. Ezri is one of my favorite characters.

Yeah, she had some odd episodes, but those could've been just dropped (or improved). That would've been a much better idea for 'fixing' the season.

Jadzia sticking around would've been fine, and I'm sure she'd've had some cool moments, too. but she never would've calmly knocked some sense into Worf the way Ezri did. And since I can watch whichever episodes I want, I now have two Daxes to choose from. Having only one would not be an improvement in any way.

I wasn't sorry to see Ezri come in place of Jadzia. I think Ezri was much more interesting and I'm glad we got a few episodes of Season 7 to get to know her rather than another season of Jadzia. Part of the problem was the writing, making Jadzia superwoman whose only flaw is a tendency to ramble on into not very funny jokes or reminiscing. Flawless characters just aren't very interesting. But the other part of the problem is Farrell's limited range as an actress. She's not horrible, but it would have taken a great actress to interpret what a 300 year old person would be like.

No. I would have liked to see Jadzia go much earlier, like after season 3 before she became insufferably annoying. Ezri was so much better in my view, for the reasons often stated.

Definitely not. It would just be too weird, like...why are they keeping her corpse around?

Mixed feelings on this one. I actually think Nicole De Boer did a very commendable job with her character of Ezri given the circumstances and basically having no future beyond the single season she appeared in.

I got to like Ezri quite a bit more than i would have expected.

I liked Jadzia up to about the middle before they went too far with all the Klingon stuff. Having her marry Worf was just insufferable.

I just don’t understand why she was being such a brat about the traditional Klingon wedding when the culture was supposed to be so important to her in the first place

She was so annoying in that episode

Honestly, I think Dukat's murder of Jadzia would have had more impact if he killed the symbiont as well. Real death, no comebacks.

Her problem was with orthodoxy, not multiculturalism.

Yes, I would have liked to see Jadzia in season 7. We'd spent six years with the character; we knew that season 7 was the last one; it would have been nice to see her through to the end.

But, as we all know, that's not what we got. And after the initial shock, I liked Ezri, too. It worked out well, and I'm pleased with that.

Both of them are among my top Trek characters. I would be unable to choose one over the other.
