Would we as fans accept a recasting of Han Solo?

I'm in the odd position of having read the Star Wars novels long before actually seeing the films - imagine my disappointment when there was no sign of Thrawn in the original Trilogy ;) - so i'm fairly open to the idea of a recast. But only if, like Captaindemotion said, they cast someone capable of remaining true to how Ford portrayed them. Basically i want a Karl Urban McCoy recast, not a Simon F***ing Pegg Scotty recast.

While re-imagining something as huge as Star Trek or Star Wars is possible due to the immense universe created for each, Indy is Indy. Like Johnny Weismuller as Tarzan, Ford IS the character and others would just be cheap knock-offs.

Again given my ass backwards way of doing things, i saw Young Indiana Jones long before the actual Indiana Jones trilogy, so for me Sean Patrick Flanery is just as much Indy as Ford is. Messed up i know.

And that's where the difference lies, eh? It all depends on what people see/read first that influences their views.

For example, I know people who prefer the Narnia books over the movies; I am opposite--I like the movies better. But those people read the books first; I saw the movies first.

Same with Harry Potter and Snape... I notice that a lot of people who are more book!Snape fans are ones who read the books first; I read the books before seeing the movies, too, but by the time I got around to reading the books, I already knew Alan Rickman had played Snape, and I had seen some pics... So that influenced my vision of Snape as a whole, and I prefer a combo of book&movie!Snape.

As such, I saw the Star Wars movies before ever reading any of the books. So I had the cast's likenesses pretty ingrained into my mind's eye when I read the EU.

However, if someone were to find an unknown with an uncanny resemblance in looks, personality, and gestures to Harrison Ford, I'd probably accept them. I *don't* think there's any *well-known* actor out there who could believably be cast as Han Solo (with the exception of possibly Nathan Fillion, but I'm on the fence about that). At least as an OT-age Han...

Now, if they were needing someone for a few-decades-later Han... I wouldn't be upset at all if they cast Dennis Quaid. :D

Not an actor, and I think he's British, but here's a fairly uncanny young!Harrison lookalike:
