Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth sooner?

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

Oh look, another Fan who thinks TATV was actually the ENT Finale, rather than some Fan Fiction story that made the rounds. Where did this ridiculous myth come from? ;)

Oh look, another fan who's in denial that the producers & writers actually signed off on the stupidity that was TATV. ;)
LOL, Touche, good Sir

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

^I wasn't bothred that they decided to try and introduce new elements rather then keep the same old same old. As you say they played it safe, too safe.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth sooner?

No.

The premise of Voyager was to be, "out there, on their own".

Once they returned it wouldn't have been about "Voyager"... it would have been about "post apocalyptic Star Fleet."

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

What people are really saying they want is Season 8 of Deep Space Nine. :D

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

The conclusion to the dominion war was pants.. the 12 part story was nice, but it really fell apart towards the end...If Voyagers had a slip stream drive... Which got them home in hours instead of decades, that means that if the Dominion war had continued, that they would just be all about commando raids on the dominions hind quarters.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

The fall of Cardassia is the most interesting (to me) part of the conclusion of the Dominion war.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

Fall of Cardassia; Founder interned; Sisko ascends....then...Voyager emerges from the wormhole chased by Borg fleet. Kira and Jake mutter: 'shit...'

Fade to black. To be continued...

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

The way it was written, the most emotionally satisfying decision (for the audience) for the crew to make is to stay behind in order to weaken the Borg. They wouldn't make it home for another 16 years, but it would be the morally corrent choice.

The end of Endgame should have been Admiral Janeway learning the lesson about her crew that she did actually make in the actual episode, and then that should have been it. She could even still sacrifice herself to save them. None of this having their cake and eating it too bull.

Also this way, any scenes set in the future would actually be scenes from the future.

I really would have liked that!
Plus, Janeway would finally learn a lesson that she isn't always right to interfere.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

I think getting Voyager home too soon would've been counter to the point of the show. The show was about the journey. While DS9, with it's focus on Alpha Quad politics/conflict was definitely better and I would certainly like to see more of that, Voyager was not the place for it. That being said, they should've had at least a few episodes with the crew readjusting to life back home/the Doc and Seven trying to find a place in Federation society.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

I would have liked to have seen Voyager return home early, emerging into a quadrant where everything has changed and they have a lot to deal with. They could have had some really good character stories, then had a reshuffle and continued, with characters going in different directions so there would be plenty of scope for stories.

Failing that, finishing Endgame the same way they did Caretaker and having the crew sacrifice their way home for an innocent species would have been quite fitting, leaving the series very open-ended for if they would ever get home.

That would create temporal paradox, Captain Janeway would know about her future actions, so would have no need to eventually travel back in time, once she finally reached the Alpha quadrant and is promoted to Admiral.

But if she never traveled back in time, her past actions would never technically have happened.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

I've been watching Voyager recently and I've been thinking was Voyagers journey a bit to easy when it come to the delta quadrant and getting home. I know they met many bad races but I,d wished that the delta quadrant was a bit more darker and dangerous.

On the subject of voyager getting home sooner it would not of made any difference but I'd liked to of seen a episode after they returned and what paths they would of took .? janeway been admiral for example !!!

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

On the plus side, Voyager wrapping up as suddenly as it did meant we got Kirsten Beyer's fantastic novels several years later!:D

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

I would rather have another season of Voyager than any novels.

Not that I felt ripped off or anything, like with ENT. Seven seasons is perfectly good.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

What about motion comics?

Hell, the Buffy motion comics of Buffy Season 8 where dawn turns into a centaur and falls in love with Xander have a completely original and dirt cheap voice cast.

The only problem is that there are not many Voyager comics and even less "good" Voyager comics to semianimate.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

That's an great idea especially if they used it to step outside the Trek box.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

I would've liked to see Voyager return home at the end of Season 6 and then use Season 7 to explore the crew adjusting to life back in the Federation. That would provide a lot of opportunity to also explore the post-Dominion War landscape and maybe allow for some TNG and DS9 crossovers as well.

Perhaps a threat from the Delta Quadrant could've brought the crew back together for the series finale. There was the Voth, Species 8472, Vaadwaur, and of course the Borg. Voyager wasn't lacking in big adversaries.

Absent that, I wouldn't have minded if they never made it home during the course of the series, making the ship home instead.

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

Would DS9 have been better if the Dominon War ended sooner?

Re: Would Voyager have been better if the ship returned to Earth soone

And then what? Chit chat with the Bajorans while waiting for the ink to dry on their Federation membership?
