I think so, they should reintroduce them and how they joined the crew for the ST sequel. Arrex can be played by Doug Jones while voiced by Dan Ackroyd and M'ress can be played by some foxy chick with make-up from Rick Baker.
With today's technology anything is possible, and what do you think of my casting for Arex?
I think it could work. Abrams already put a weird alien crewmember on the Kelvin, and Arex and M'ress don't look any crazier.
I agree with everything said here. Loved Arex, Can do with out M'ress. She just makes me think of the cats musicale. And for the love of all that is holy, find away to bring Gaila back as a main character.Mr Arex would be BRILLIANT in STXII (I've been waging a one-man campaign on his behalf, with little success). As long as they didn't make a Jar-Jar-Joke out of him. IMO Arex is one of the coolest Trek characters ever. He has much to offer.
He'd fit in great at one of those extra stations next to Sulu and Chekov.
M'ress was sadly ruined with all that stupid purring. I'd rather the Kzinti!
...or maybe Gaila, saying she was pulled from the wreckage of the Farragut.
As much fun as it would be for diehard fans of TAS, it's really not known to most of today's ST audiences, so new viewers would probably see any attempt to shoehorn Arex and M'Ress into the next movie as Abrams trying to out-Jar Jar George Lucas.

I mean, Keenser appears on screen for less than 2 minutes and barely speaks a word and we had threads on how he was the Jar Jar of Star Trek or how much worse than Jar Jar he was![]()

I don't know about the new viewers but I know we would never hear the end of it from the fans posting in forums.

The thing with Keenser was that everything he did and said in his entire role was for comic relief. Now this didn't really bother me, but I do understand why some would make the comparison.

I didn't notice that happening when I saw it in the theater, but it's not hard to imagine people reacting that way. Still, even if he had been present strictly for comic relief, I think Keenser fell well short of the sort of over-the-top buffoonery that was Jar Jar's shtick. Different league, altogether. Not quite everything. The thing with Keenser was that everything he did and said in his entire role was for comic relief. Yeah, but then he did the weird purr/sigh that people seemed to chuckle at at most of the showings I went to.
