Would anyone be interested in something like this?

I use the "Charting the Novel-verse" sticky thread extensively to reference older works, plan out my reading strategy, see where a certain novel fits into the grand scheme of things, etc. There've been many times that I've wished I had all of this information available on my Kindle, say, when I'm at work or visiting my parents or in-laws that have no Internet access, etc.

After I return from my Mother's Day weekend visit, I plan to start converting the thread to a properly formatted epub and mobi files for my personal use. Would anyone else out there be interested in this? Does anyone know of any reason that I couldn't or shouldn't make this available to others if there is interest? Has someone else out there already attempted a project like this?

I plan to use only the initial series posts, not any personal responses that came later.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes or do something that I shouldn't so I'm asking here before offering this too anyone. Once I get it compiled, and assuming there are no issues, I plan to offer it to anyone that may be interested and to try my best to keep it updated as new titles are published.

Opinions? Comments?

Thanks.

I'm currently working on a big website that expands on the 'Charting the Novel-verse' thread and turns the info from there and other sources into reading lists. Just throwing that out, but to me the more Trek book info out there, the better. It'll be a few months til my site is done also.

Doesn't Memory Beta pretty much chart them out year-by-year, putting them in chronological order? For me, I have the "Voyages Of Imagination" book, and then can consult MB to see where VoI leaves off.

Pretty much. Although last time I checked it wasn't updated much past Destiny.

I just meant that alot of the books past Destiny haven't been added to the timeline yet. I just checked and Over A Torrent Sea, A Singular Destiny, and Losing the Peace are the the farthest out books on the timeline.

Plus MB is kindof a mess to sort through, with all the divisions of books into thier proper chronological sections. Though that level of detail is useful in a way, there's something to be said for a simpler approach.

you should ask the original poster Turtletrekker for his permission at least, since it's his work.

You're right. Good point. I would too, if there was any interest. Since there doesn't appear to be, I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just make it for my own use and be done with it.

Rest assured. If anyone ever shows any interest in obtaining a copy, I'll make certain to get Turtletrekker's blessing first.

Thanks.

An acknowledgment and maybe a link to the "Charting" thread is all I really ask. And since what your doing is so heavily influenced by "Charting the Novel-verse", I would like to see what you come up with. :techman:

Although, who knows, I might wind up asking for co-author credit. ;)

I'm working on the epub now. I already had you and several of the others that I can see that frequently update listed as authors and myself as the creator. While I plan to give myself a little credit for the conversion part, most of the credit is going to you guys because you compiled everything.

Still, there hasn't been a single response from anyone interested so, until someone asks for it, it'll only be for personal use, and for you, of course.

I haven't had much time to work on it the past few days. Hopefully I'll have something ready to send for you to preview in a week or two.

I'd be interested to at least check it out. I used to have most of the interconnectedness in my head, but I lost track of it all when the novels stopped coming out regularly.

Good idea.
