NO indication that she still pined for him? In TMP she postively GUSHES when he comes on board. In the book, Spock makes a sarcastic internal comment to himself about her desperation to sleep with him. YES, Gene did this because that's how he saw women.
What, Christine can't crave some hot Ponn Farr action without being seen as a victim?
I will give you that her beaming smile could be an 'indication' that she still had feelings for him. But I must point out that Chekov smiled too, until he was also shot down in flames. Christine pointed out that they were all pleased to see him. She still likes him, sure, but I see no indication that she still pines for him. In fact she's all professional and rather impassive when she has him on a medical bed later in the movie. Kirk displays far more concern.I think Gene's sexist credentials may be displayed by the fact he described far too many female characters as having the walk of a striptease queen...

Then they went from that to women aren't allowed to serve as Star ship captains?
They never gave the reasons, but it suggested women must have been too emotional, frail or something.
I remember in one episode Uhura lets out a scream when Kirk suddenly disappears off the bridge.
They would never have a recent female crew member do something like that.
Another stereotype is the sexy, but kick ass, martial arts using female. Seven, Kira, Dax....

I have to agree with him. When I lived in London, the friends I made told others I was "American" and some would question me on US politics, like why we elected GHWB; or make assumptions about how our government works. One particular person, not part of the friends I made asked me why the Supreme Court was passing laws. He was too drunk to try to correct so I just ignored him until one of his friends pulled him away.
Also on my trips to Mexico, I'm referred to as Americano.

TOS definitely used to portray most of its female crewmen as overly emotional. We use to have a running joke at school that Kirk used to slap them around a bit to snap them out of it (not that we condoned violence against women but it's the fact that Kirk had to 'help' female officers get a grip in the show often enough for us to make a joke out of it). Mind you, a couple of male officers, McCoy included, could be accused of the same thing I suppose!
I'm not wholly convinced that we can label martial arts using tough gals as a gender stereotype since all (TNG) military and starfleet officers would be given training in this area. It's more of a case that in TOS most of the blokes got to roughhouse but only two of the yeomen were shown to have anything coming close to that level of skill.
One stereotype is the all-male security team. Post-Tasha we didn't get another female guard until season 4 and we've never had an all-female team, which should be as common as an all-male team if you think about it (I think there might have been one incidence of an all-female Bajoran security team in one episode of DS9 but that's all).

If you tell someone you are from the Milkey Way they would be confused because they would think you mean the Federation and you don't look like us. By the way, If Picard, who is from the United Federation of Planets, decided to say "I'm from the Planets" and the person from Orion protested because is is also from "a" planet...

That's what I originally thought--in fact I never thought much about it, until one day after watching some episodes I noticed something interesting about the characters.
At one point they have this sexy, kick ass aspect. They're Starfleet officers or if not, they somehow know how to fight.
But then the risk is that over time ,they overdo it and they become...rough, too violent.
Dax starts off as kind of mature and demure. Later she comes off as a little wild.
Then in one episode she smacks the hell out of Martok's wife her future in- law. (Well, she did pull a knife in Dax's defense).
I saw one episode where Kira literally picked Quark off the ground with both hands, and then threw him back against the wall about three feet away.
By season seven Kira came off as just plain violent and hard as nails. Shes been through a lot, granted, but at this point, wow..
Seven of Nine..remember that episode where she's forced to fight in the arena? She has instant martial arts skills-and it's sexy, lol.
