Worst Spoiler Experience?

Probably "Snape kills Dumbledore" which was spoiled by some jackass trolling the chat box of an online game.

Not a huge deal I guess since I only watch the movies but still pretty annoying.

I have never watched Lost but due to its popularity and constant mention on internet sites I know that

Spoiler: Lost

they are all dead and everything that happens on the show takes place in Purgatory.

Not true.

Although it was funny listening to Jason Smith on ESPN radio complaining about the ending of Lost even though he didn't watch it and was strictly going off the incorrect articles online.

Technically you're right, it's not true. But ...

The show does end in a kind of purgatory, but the events that happen earlier in the series do not take place in purgatory. I kind of view it as the producers "having their cake and eating it too". But then I didn't like the ending.

It's getting increasingly harder to not be spoiled these days. Trailers tend to show off too much, and then there's the minefield of discussions everywhere, not to mention the hype leading off to its release. I did manage not to be spoiled much by Star Trek, until the actual month of its release when I decided to view the trailer. Other than that, I didn't follow anything, which was quite hard to do, because the media's so much in our faces these days. In the end, I think I was better for it because I did not know what to expect, and I enjoyed it more as I didn't know every single detail. But it's very hard in this day and age to avoid the hype and publicity. It's much more rewarding when you can though.

The Empire Strikes Back - Back when TNT or whatever network would show the trilogy over three nights. My uncle told me that Darth Vader was Luke's dad just hours before I was going to watch it.

When ESB came out on special edition, I watched it with my brother and my two sisters, the younger of whom was 18 and the older of whom was 27 or 28.
Vader: "No. I am yor father."
Sisters: "WHAT???"

The same thing happened with the sibling reveal in ROTJ.

For me, I like the Spoilers given by the Author, Producers, whatever Such as a Major death is coming up, or we're going to go to such and such a place with the plot, because those spoilers are specifically chosen by them to entice your salivation and to not give away the real twist. But, yea, Marketing often blows it, as do the Media and cretins who deliberately go out seeking a place to drop Spoiler Bombs immediately after something comes out. I never understood why people get their jollies from deliberately giving away important plot points or twists (of course, if they spoiler-Code it, and you're too weak to resist looking, that's your own fault)

Yeah, that happened to me. I was in the snack line ten minutes before showtime, and the guy behind me said to his friend, "Watch and you'll see that no one talks to Bruce Willis except the kid."

Arlington Road trailer. The only thing missing is the ending. Some TV ads gave away the big thing Joan Cusack's character does in the movie.

I think there was a thread awhile back about how some commercials for upcoming Trek episodes spoiled the ending. I specifically remember the one for the TNG: "A Matter of Perspective" which totally gave away the ending by showing the laser thing (or whatever) bounce off of Riker as he was being transported and and blowing up the station.

That was what the entire mystery revolved around and they just showed in in the preview.

Okay, this is not sci fi, but my brother had become a huge fan of Dexter and had eagerly recommended it to me, offering to lend me his season one box set so I could catch up.

He just happen to bring the DVDs round the night that the second season premiered but he assured me we could watch something else on TV and he would watch it later. Of course, when I needed to leave the room for 30 seconds and he switched over to check out what was happening and I literally re-entered the room as the episode recap mentioned the big twist of the first season.

Ugh - I was gutted and never bothered with the show after that.

I was late to the party for BSG, and so I got spoiled by who the final 4 were from all the season 4 ads that were being thrown around before I even got through season 2. Gran Torino was ruined for me because one of my friends posted on his facebook status that Eastwood commits suicide. I've also had Lost ruined for me.

This board was riddled with BSG spoilers throughout its run. The problem is that the general chat threads don't have spoiler rules enforced, especially The Place That Must Not Be Mentioned, so a general insult is about as bad as it gets for the spoilers.

I was getting ready to see the movie on the coming weekend, and at lunch one night at work I opened the new issue of Time for that week. Right in the middle of an article on a different movie, with no warning, the reviewer blew Sixth Sense's big secret right out into the open. I was so pissed I didn't even bother seeing the film for nearly ten years!

I'd have to say that the destruction of Vulcan was the one that I most wish I had avoided.

Or even moreso, that TPTB had avoided putting to film.

I used to be a spoiler-whore. I even bought a bootleg copy of the Nemesis script at a con, and it completely colored my view of the film. I think I still would have felt let down by it, but reading that script in advance made me really hate it. Since then, I have tried to avoid spoilers.

BTW, that script, with the "is that your final answer" line and such.. Was that a fake? I remember reading that someone had intentionally added stupid shit to make it even worse. But I never found out if that was true or not.

Just before ST:TMP came out, Starlog magazine published a sidebar article about it. I was excited to read about the movie, but the last thing I ever expected was the full-on spoiler "V'ger turns out to be..."

I have not purchased a Starlog since.

And arguably, the person who said that he has never forgiven him is a "douche" in my opinion.
