Worst Episode of TNG Season Three Part One

The voting for the second season least favorite has concluded, with "Shades of Gray" taking the dishonor. Now on to season three. The quality of the show got better, which may mean the decision now gets harder. In this round, pick your THREE least favorites. The top five will go head to head to determine the least favorite for this season.

My two easy choices were The Price and Menage a Troi.

For the third, I went with A Matter of Perspective, though it was a tossup between that, The Bonding, and Captain's Holiday. The rest of the season is pretty strong overall though...

The Hunted: Because it was one of a few heavy handed social commentary episodes in season 3, and possibly the weakest, IIRC.

The Bonding: Another fairly contrived one...the alien tech with the ability to recreate the orphaned boy's mother. Not sure what the point of the episode was...sort of a Worf vehicle...but not a memorable one. Shows the repercussions of families aboard ships, I suppose.

I almost voted EVOLUTION...for pretty much redoing the "UGLY BAG OF MOSTLY WATER" concept again. Data possessed. Ugh. Yeah, I should've voted it instead.

Also, I considered HOLLOW PURSUITS, because Barclay got tiresome in later years. Plus medical science should be able to cure him. Seriously, the amount of social disorders in the future should be nill.

Personally, I enjoyed the sort of tacky Melrose Place-ness of THE PRICE. In season 3, we see the Romulans and Ferengi as a recurring antagonists...with the Romulans being more liked, but here the Ferengi work. (thought they could've used both!). And yes, slutty Troi is more fun to watch than mentally messed up Troi ala THE SURVIVORS.

I take offense to that. You make it sound like it's a disease, but it's not. It's just the way some people might be.

Menage a Troi for me as well. My other two picks were Allegiance and Transfigurations. I don't think either is particularly terrible, but I think they're both really boring.

The worst threads are only going to get harder for me from her until season five since I pretty much like all of the episodes. I think my least favorite episodes are at worst mediocre but not right awful.

With that said I guess my three least favorite episodes were Transfigurations, The Price, and A Matter of Perspective. But again I enjoyed all three.

The Price is beyond terrible. The guy from Police Academy 5 is horrendous.

Allegiance ... It's not horrible, but it's just dumb.
A Matter of Perspective ... Riker the Rapist is very disturbing.

I kind of like Menage a Troi. It's stupid fun.

The Price is fetid. The Bonding is just noxious, but they're the only two I can pick.

Yeah, I liked Menage A Troi. I found it funny.

I'm surprised that The Bonding is receiving so many votes. I found it to be one of my favorites from season three. It had so many wonderful character moments-Beverly/Wesley, Worf/Riker, Picard/Wesley, Picard/Troi, Troi/Worf, Worf/Jeremy etc. I thought Troi was well utilized. It resonated emotionally with me. I thought Picard' speech to the entity about death to be moving. I liked the mystery and the idea of a corporeal and non-corporeal alien co-existing. I also appreciated the continuity by remembering Tasha and the Data/Riker scene in Ten Forward is a highlight. I'd give this episode no less than 3.5 stars.

This one was a really hard choice but I ended up voting for Evolution, The Bonding and Transfigurations. They were the episodes that bored me the most.

Why? You think there are fewer recognized social and emotional disorders now than there were a century ago? Two centuries?

Captain's Holiday - I like Jennifer Hetrick, but I can't sit through this episode because I get repetitive strain injury from wincing over action-hero picard and the contrived, cliché, silliness of the whole adventure. Stewart wanted Picard to get more action (in every sense of the word), but I could have lived a long time without the lame Indiana Jonesification.

The Hunted - Because it's heavy-handed, and forgettable.

The Most Toys - A lot of people seem to really like that episode. I guess it's a nice Data episode, but for me it's one of the less interesting episodes of season 3. The writers had a really good idea, but I don't think it was really enough to sustain a whole episode. YMPV
