Worst Episode of Star Trek : Season One Part One

I only voted for 1 episode, "The Alternative Factor". It just doesn't make sense that this episode got on the air. It was a good idea with rotten execution. I wish Gene Coon would have gotten ahold of this one and done a re-write.

Like Hambone I only voted for one episode, The Alternative Factor. None of the rest even remotely approaches some of the later season (and series) abominations.

I wish I could have voted for "The Alternative Factor" three times! Since I couldn't, I also voted for "Mudd's Women" and "The Return of the Archons".

Conversely, according to this poll, "Court Martial" appears to be the most liked episode!

Last time there was a poll of best TOS episodes, IIRC it came down to two from this season: "The Balance of Terror" and "City on the Edge of Forever." "Balance" won, but for both episodes there's evidently at least one person who thinks it's one of the worst of the season.

I guess judging from this poll "The Cage" and "Court Martial" aren't the most liked, but they are the least hated. Hah, odd...

I picked "The Alternative Factor" and "Tomorrow is Yesterday" because they just don't make sense! At least TIY has some good scenes before the ending, but that ending just ruined it for me. TAF is just too weird. I voted for "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" too because it was too boring for me, though "The Man Trap" and "Dagger of the Mind" were nearly as bad for me. I don't remember "Mudd's Women" much so I didn't vote for it.

"Return of the Archons" is the only episode of TOS that actually pains me to watch. Including "Spock's Brain".

I really, truly find that episode alternately annoying, sad, and laughable--and never amusing.

I found it quite hard to choose - The Alternative Factor was the obvious first choice, but the other two were less clear. In the end, I selected The Return Of The Archons and This Side Of Paradise.

Interesting! I see you're not the only one to vote for it either.

I knew The Alternative Factor was going to get a lot of votes, but it's kind of surprising to see every episode of the season getting at least one vote, with the exception (so far) of Court Martial.

The Alternative Factor

There was never any doubt about which one I was going to vote for first. I just refuse to watch The Alternative Factor....I'd rather watch 100 reruns of The Giant Tomato that Ate Manhattan.

However, my other two votes really fall into shows that I just can't watch as much as others:

The Squire of Gothos
The Enemy Within

No angst against these two episodes...I just can't watch them as much as I can watch the others from Season 1.

Well, it's official.

"Court Martial" is the least hated episode of TOS S1. It's the only episode that nobody seems willing to put in their bottom three of the season.

^ I'm tempted to break the rules and create a second account just to vote for "Court Martial" ... Don't get me wrong, I love this episode. But it is far from being the best episode of the first TOS season.
