Worst characters in each series

Beckler

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
In the hopes of giving some pointers to the creators of any future star trek series, who are some major or recurring characters that never should have existed? Here are my picks for those that were boring, annoying and should have been killed off after the 1st episode (or sooner).

TNG
-Wesley: obviously
-Dr. Crusher: bad actor, boring character.
-Alexander: stupid episodes.
-Guinan: boring
-Lwaxana Troi: obvious
-The Binars and Okana

DS9
-Nog: worst, most annoying ST character
-Rom: same
-Dax: bad acting, boring "host" concept
-Vic Fontaine: Nog except worse
-All bajoran spiritual leaders: idiotic idea
-Garak: interesting somewhat, but completely monotonous
-Sisko's father: bad acting
-Baseball episode
-Group of savantes or whatever
-The prophets

VOY
-Neelix: no purpose other than irritation
-Any reference to Capt. Proton
-Icheb: Voyager's Wesley
-Torres: acting; "torn between 2 cultures" had gotten old*
-7 of 9: just overdone
-Kes: bad acting, v. annoying
-Fantome

ENT
-All :D

*In fact it was way overdone with all of these, over & over & over: Worf, Spock, Torres, 7 of 9, Data, Odo.

You covered a lot of bases there Beckler, but I'll give it a go. I don't usually skip episodes but any one that heavily features these characters makes me unconsciously pay less attention to what's happening on screen. At times they do redeem themselves with certain scenes but overall they are pretty weak, boring, or useless. Can't win 'em all I suppose.

TOS
Checkov (sort of made up for his haircut by getting an eel in his ear)
Chapel (attractive but useless)

TNG
Wesley (wünderkid angle way overdone, never recovered, terrible sweaters)
Deanna (reliance on vague emotions rather than narrative substance)
Lwaxana (obnoxious, written as a comic character but is painfully unfunny, I still like Mr. Homn)

DS9
Rom (not even remotely funny, is he supposed to be mentally disabled?)
Leeta (very attractive but utterly useless except to make Rom look less futile)

VOY
Kim (never develops, just sort of there and along for the ride)
7 of 9 (nice eye-candy but her story is a yawn-fest, I preferred Kes)
Borg Children (so boring, tried to care: couldn't)

ENT
Mayweather (bad actor, pointless character, what were they thinking?)
Tucker & Reed (can't stand either of these guys, they feel very un-Trek)

Trip & Tucker (can't stand either of these guys, they feel very un-Trek)
That's the same guy. If you meant Malcolm Reed, he was the only character I really liked on ENT. Didn't care for the Section 31 business though.

Fixed that. I meant Reed. It's been awhile since I've seen Enterprise and those two are pretty unmemorable for me even though Trip is sort of a "big deal". FWIW I agree that Reed is the better of the two.

Rom (not even remotely funny, is he supposed to be mentally disabled?)

No, he's not. Have you actually watched DS9 in its entirety? Good grief!

I have. I watched "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" today and I can confirm he's definitely not all there. He's more than just an awkward guy, I'm surprised they let him use the power tools around the station. Did I miss an episode where they show him as an idiot-savant?

Edit: Haha I forgot for a moment what happens to him at the end of the series. I guess that counts, but he's still a few slips short of a brick.

You think he's bad, you should see the out-take where Armin Shimerman (Quark) tries to improvise during a scene and breaks a prop.

I'm sure that whomever creates the next Trek series will do fine without "pointers" from TrekBBS cadets that they'll never see. ;)

T´Pol: trying to be more Vulcan than most Vulcans. Makes me avoid Enterprise. Only short stories in the Litverse with T´Pol are bearable - I don´t have to see her.

Yup. Speaking of bad acting, what about Archer!? If stiff acting and deadpan delivery of every single line is good, Bakula is the best actor of all time.

Yeah and I'm sure they consider themselves to have "done fine" with Vic Fontaine and the other idiotic recurring themes of that type. Does anyone actually enjoy that useless awkward filler? I'm going to say the worst episodes of all time would have been easy to spot in script form. They should do well to listen to their audience. Look what happened to the 4 TNG movies - unwatchable boring garbage by the 4th.

The characters are what they are. They're all still more honorable and reliable than half of the people that I've known in real life.

Yeah Bakula isn't exactly Marlon Brando but I like Archer as a character. He's excited and unpredictable. Shatner and Avery Brooks ham it up all the time, I guess I've just grown accustomed to the classic Trekian school of overacting. It's better than the underperforming non-presence of Anthony Montgomery.

They've certainly no reason to substitute the judgment of a random Internet poster for theirs. Seriously, the conceit that we're offering "pointers" is beyond ridiculous.

And look what you've achieved with your very first post!

Seriously - you use your first post to attack the shows to which this board owes it's existence? Great first impression!
