Worst Cancellations This TV Season

Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly addressed the cancellations of Enlisted, as well as other freshman comedies Dads and Surviving Jack, on a conference call with reporters last week. "We just felt like we couldn't support them, for various reasons, in a way that would have given them a shot," he said.

Disregarding Dads, because that was given a decent time slot and promotion, but huh? You didn't support the other two shows to begin with, so I guess it makes sense that if you renewed them you wouldn't promote them again...okay?:wtf:

Well, at least he's honest.

^It is kind of backwards logic. "We didn't think we could support them in being entirely successful, so we made SURE they won't be successful because now they will no longer exist."

Nobody sets out to make bad TV shows. They realized they were garbage once they were committed to series and wanted to sweep them under the rug.

They didn't necessarily think they were garbage. In fact Enlisted had a very good critical reception. But networks can't provide every show a good timeslot and equal promotion. They have finite resources and a limited number of good timeslots.

Wow. Here's an interesting article about FOX Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly and what may have contributed to him he stepping down from the network. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05...al-battles-contribute-to-fox-chairman-leaving

More than likely however, it was largely FOX's low ratings of late that were a large factor in his "voluntary" split from the company, and perhaps an increasing number of disagreements with his boss, Fox Networks Group CEO Peter Rice. Reilly had initially decided to order another 13-episode season of the critically acclaimed (but low rated) comedy Enlisted, as well as picking up a second season of the J.J. Abrams-produced Almost Human. Decisions which caused him and Rice to butt heads. Decisions which were also, obviously, finally vetoed by Rice, according to Vulture's sources, leading to both show's being cancelled after all.

Also, the creator of Enlisted today says he's hoping the final four episodes get a bump in the ratings when they start to air this Sunday. Hinting that studio Fox 21 is shopping the show to other potential distributors.

"If we get even the slightest rating bump, it can help us live. This may seem like a fool’s errand, but even a little bit of hope is still hope. I love this show and believe in this show too much to give up."

Aww, that sucks. I would have loved to have had those shows come back.

But there's no way in hell that Enlisted will see a ratings bump on Sunday 7pm in the summer season. They might as well be airing it at 3am.

Nice to see someone in the higher-ups was pulling for Almost Human. That show could have pulled itself up in ratings but Fox Foxed them as they usually do with science fiction shows.

Looks like Yahoo Screen just "un-cancelled" Community.

Galavant is very much in The Neighbors quirky vein... I was hesitant till the songs came out and the gold-digger showed up, now I'm cautiously optimistic.

Well, Hieroglyph now has the title for worst cancellation so far this season. Picked up for 13 episodes and now canceled before any of them were made.

For fans of the briefly living "Bad Teacher" sitcom on CBS! They're airing two new episodes this Saturday at 8pm!

I love the way cancelled sitcoms get burned off on holiday weekends. What an insult.

Most of the time the sitcoms are an insult.

Enlisted should have been moved to Tuesdays, and Almost Human had decent ratings, a 13 episode second season as a filler test run wouldn't have killed Fox.

Network TV behind the scenes are more interesting than most of the shows. CBS is number one because old people don't understand technology and all their shows are the same. NBC rebounded because The Voice, but what happens when that dies soon? Fox is screwed because they have all this behind the walls BS going on. Community gets a 6th season randomly (June 30th was the last day to keep the cast) on something that not one person has ever heard of before (Yahoo Stream).

It's why I stick to Netflix and shows that have already ended. :)

Not as good as "Don't trust the Bitch from apartment 23".

Loved that show!

:techman:

The problem with Bad Teacher is they attempt to redeem her every episode with some sweet act that shows she really has a heart of gold. It takes the edge off.

The Fox show that would have lasted on Fox. It got a crappy deal from ABC, airing the episodes out of order. But at least we got two seasons out of it. It was really fun and different from most crap out there. I liked to refer to it as: "2 Broke Girls, if it was funny."

Which is why I enjoyed the movie so much. No matter how many horrible things she did in the course of the movie, she didn't learn anything and was just as much of a horrible person at the end as she was at the beginning of the movie.

Enlisted is inoffensive, but I'd rather see more about everyone else in the platoon rather than those three brothers... Has the US Army not seen Saving private Ryan?
