Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 (South Africa) Thread

Does anyone call this phase of the tournament "Second Round" anymore? Now it's all "Knockout Phase" and "Round of 16" and all that stuff.
I've always called "The last 16".

I use the phrase "last 16" in tournaments with large numbers of competitors just to remind myself of who's where, such as tennis grand slams which have endless knockout rounds (OK, 4) before the quarter finals.

Yes, please go. Let Ghana progress. :p

(jk, good luck to both teams :))

Wow. I've just discovered the joy of watching the footy with the volume down while listening to The Freak Zone on 6 Music.

Obscure Italian Prog and slo-mo fouls/diving replays go together surprisingly well.

:D

Wha...? Even as a member of the Portuguese horde, I think you are incredibly optimistic in thinking Portugal has any change against Spain, especially with the tool Queiros at the helm...
Spain are favorites, but Portugal is pretty solid at the back and can score goals. I wouldn't say they have no chance.

Hopefully Ghana can hold onto that lead. The African World Cup needs to have a home team doing well.

On the flip side, a USA success would really open the country up to football, but I'm still rooting for Ghana.

This shit...again?

The Black Stars, who are putting their heart and souls into this match, deserve to be ahead. I said someone would call their (the US's) bluff one day and it looks like it may be Ghana. That better be one HELL of a locker room speech by Bradley.

If by some miracle the US manages another comeback, playing with this strategy will get us destroyed by Uruguay, whereas I can see Ghana holding out for a while (as they did against Germany). Thus it'd almost be better if Ghana won, as the ensuing game would probably be better.

But "it's not over until it's over" and "ye of little faith" and...all that. :D

Why the hell didn't Bradley go with this lineup from the beginning? The US look much better in the second half than they did in the first.

And another goal from Donovan! :D He made that a lot closer than it should have been, but hey, we'll take it. :techman:
