World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

Typical Germans!

Nah not really. They were really good, partiuclarly impressed with Ozil and Muller. Only Germany and the Koreans have impressed me so far - hopefully the Dutch will play well today as well. After all, who doesn't want to see them do well?

Michael Caine?

Been away from PC since Friday night so I'll keep this short n sweet...Robert Green I knew there was a reason I didn't have you in my entire squad YOUR SHIT  and ITV you are too I missed the goal :scream:

We were poor all-round, despite the pundits trying to tell us that it was a 'much improved performance'.

Green was obviously the focal point, but equally, why the fcuk was SWP on the left ahead of Joe Cole or Barry (who Capello confirmed was fit)? Likewise, Heskey, I'm sorry, people can claim as much as they like that he had a good game, but you play Heskey and you're forced to play one way, high balls up to him and let him win the flicks and knock downs. Rooney was completely iscolated for most of the game and Heskey gave him scant support.

It would also be nice to have wingers who could actually cross a ball. SWP, no signs of a cross from memory. Lennon, did well generally, but everytime he had to deliver into the box, nothing.

Lampard, largely anonymous.

Carragher, too immobile. Needs to be Upson or even Dawson in there for the next game.

All of that aside, the US played very, very well. We didn't deserve anything more than a draw on that performance and could easily have lost.

On the other matches, Germany were very impressive and I enjoyed South Korea's game against Greece. Argentina were great in the first half of their game, but tbh, only Germany have turned up looking like potential champions IMO.

Now they say they don´t ban the anoying horns I thought I would put my thoughts like this:
The vuvuzela poem
The boaring horns of twenty ten
Hope I never hear them again
All game long on and on
Those annoying horns drown songs
In my ears it hurts the most
No more world cups will Africa host!

Re the vuvuzelas, they are incredibly irritating, especially seeing as they're not QUITE loud enough to drown out the ramblings of Andy Townsend......! :D

So, just as I predicted, the Germans punished Aussies... Brutally!

Netherlands - Denmark was shit, though... My overall impression of this WC is really really bad, I must say. Bad, boring football by almost everyone...

Opening round of games is always going to be cagey. As things progress games will get better as teams will be needing to pick up points to get through. Problem with the opening games is that no one wants to lose, whereas with the latter games, a lot fo them are must-win.

ITALIA FORZA!

BTW, I'm only rooting for Italy until they get out of the groups. Then they have to lose, since I don't want them to be "campioni del mondo" twice in a row.

Netherlands and Denmark was typical of the quality we've seen so far. Japan v Cameroon was soporific. Had me falling asleep at my desk.

I have to work with a woman of Italian descent, and she is one of the most irritating people I've ever known. For that reason, i hope Italy lose in some embarrassing fashion. Not yet though - I want them to fall at the last possible moment in the group stage if anything.

They're playing in hailstones though - brilliant!

Can't say I'm sad right now. ;)

Edit: Oh, forgot my world cup avatar ...

^^
Hehe.

Wouldn't be catastrophic for Italy to lose this game though, although obviously it's not good for the morale. Slovakia and New Zealand especially should be much easier to defeat.
