Work Print of New Voyages' "Origins" Episode Released

Interesting to watch, and yeah, it could've been edited tighter, but hopefully they would've worked that out in the end. The script was a bit clunky at times, like when Gary Mitchell says he's Kirk's friend and roommate to Kirk, who presumably already knows both of those things.

I don't know if you really needed Finnegan and Carol Marcus in there, either, as neither one particularly contributed to the story. But fan film is gonna fan film, I guess.

Well, he was pretty over the top in "Shore Leave" too, so there was precedent.
Well one thing to remember about The TOS episode "Shore Leave"; WRT to Finnegan is that the Finnegan presented is in the manner that Kirk remembers him from his Academy days.

My point here being that given that, the Finnegan presented might be a bit over the top because he's someone who obviously affected Kirk for years for him to remember him in that way in a stressful situation. The actual Finnegan might be a little more nuanced and not so much of a caricature.

Oh, I agree. I can't see Finnegan lasting long enough to become an upperclassman if he was that frantic all the time.

Yes. I hated the character in “Shore Leave,” and I hated the character here. Made it unwatchable. I don’t think I got more than 2-3 minutes into the episode before I had to turn it off.
Its all surface, how interesting it would've been if Cawley and Co., could've found some dimensions to Finnegan? Something we saw in the antagonist which Kirk unfortunately never saw., and later does.

The editing would definitely helped the number of times Pike answered that transporter console intercom!

Interesting how if "Origins" HAD been completed with Carol Marcus probably representing "that little blond lab technician" mentioned in WNMHGB that fans have speculated for years since WoK came out, "The Holiest Thing" episode they DID release would have had to be altered as Jim and Carols' first meeting at minimum.

Glad I got to see this workprint though, warts and all. I missed seeing the "Torment of Destiny" workprint posted up briefly in January.
