Woot! Snow in the South!

I'm so happy...we have snow in the South, a big one by our standards. I hear 4 inches in Birmingham, 3 in Atlanta. Here in Winston-Salem,NC, we're due to get up to 7, maybe 8. Right now, it's snowing so hard outside that it looks like a heavy fog. We have about 2 inches maybe a little more right now. It's expected to taper off by around 7 or 8am.

Yeah, okay, it'll be a mess in the morning for those who have to drive, but still, it's rare we get one of this size anymore. Here,it's the biggest in five years. On top of this, my grandma is 89 and very ill, and she's said she'd like to see one more big snow, so this will make her happy.

Good to see some snow here in the NW Atlanta burbs. :)

It's pretty much gone now and it wasn't anywhere near as much as we've had in the past. But I love the snow.

I bet Atlanta shut down for the day. I used to live there myself. In fact,I know the exact address of your location PKTrekGirl. LOL

Last time I started a misc weather thread, quite some time ago of course, it got locked within seconds and I was told weather threads belonged in the lounges.

Well, I don't actually live there, of course. That is just a homage to Atlanta's utter lack of originality when naming streets. :p

I actually live in East Cobb.

I went out grocery shopping yesterday afternoon and there were a fair number of cars on the road, surprisingly. Not as many as usual, but more than I expected.

Still, I do get a kick out of the panic. I moved here after 11 years in Anchorage, Alaska, and I always get a kick out of Atlanta's relationship with snow. They all still rush to the grocery store when there is the first glimmer of a hope of a possibility of a rumor of a snowflake.

And yesterday, while the roads did have some traffic on them, there was evidence that the panic contingent had been to the grocery store. Bread section was picked over, etc.

Had less than an inch here, but my son still had fun in it! Someone even managed to make a midget snowman. It was gone by 11 AM, though. The pastor at my church found it amusing that the Sunday School classes were canceled due to the snow.

I was living on campus in Atlanta back in 1993 when that blizzard (well, blizzard to a Southerner!) hit. It was fun, but for two days, the only food around was Wendy's and a Subway - the dining halls didn't open at all! I stood in line for 2 hours to get a Subway sandwich from the *one* guy that showed up to work. He got some massive tips that day!

We had almost a foot of snow in central and northern Virginia. It does snow here, but we rarely get that much. *brrr*

Nine inches of white stuff here in Richmond. My back hurts from shoveling it. But it is beautiful. :)

Sunshine and record high temps forcasted for the Mile High City. I don't think we've had close to a 9" snowstorm yet this winter.

Glad you guys are enjoying it. We got hammered with snow in December, hopefully we're done with it until next winter.

I'm actually hoping that the climate changes and the south has to rebuild its entire infrastructure. That would be GREAT for the local economy!

In Greenville, NC it snowed to our North, South, East, and West. I spent the night watching a weather radar, wishing it would dump SOMETHING on us. But no. So, here I post from my office at ECU. Blegch.
