I was really hoping that this would have been a serious thread on weather little leaguers should be using wooden or metal bats. I had my whole argument parsed out in my head, really to make salient points about the merits of using wood. Oh well, maybe sometime in the future.

Secondly, your goal seem to be to kill the burglar as they're running away, which would probably get you tried for at least manslaughter in most jurisdictions, though perhaps not ones where you can grow up without ever swinging a baseball bat. So good luck with that.

Weapons for self-defense should be used to deter first, and failing that, injure or kill as a last resort, not the first resort. If you're getting something with the express intent to kill first, you're not trustworthy or responsible enough to own a weapon.

I was only kidding with the killing part, but seriously? What douchebag came up with that law? Shouldn't all have owners have the right to use deadly force against burglars that enter their home that might want to kill/torture/rape you?

If you believe they represent a threat to you or your family, then by all means defend yourself. If you don't like that they're running out the front door carrying your stereo system, no, you can't bash them in the back of the head with a bat (which is what you said) and expect to always get off scot-free in most jurisdictions if they die or suffer permanent brain damage or paralysis.
