Wonder Woman or Power Girl? (comics)

Eh...thumb through the issue in the store. If you like what you see, pick it up and don't let anyone else say you are wrong for liking it.

I never had a problem with Judd Winick's work. I could never figure out what the hubbub was all about.

You obviously never watched season 3 of the Real World. Guy was a major douche.
Why should I care if he was a douche on the "Real World"? That has no impact on how he writes or draws a comic.

Was that the season with Puck? I saw that one. Judd didnt make much of a impression. Though, I remember thinking it was cool he was an artist.

I think Winick's creator owned stuff it pretty good. I love Barry Ween Boy Genius. But I've never really much cared for his mainstream super-hero work. Power Girl looks to be making a major tonal shift from those great first 12 issues.

I think the idea is to incorporate more of the DC Universe and up the action and drama quotients in Power Girl, but I'm optimistic that Winick will maintain a sense of humor in the series, even if it's toned down a bit from the first 12 issues...

I tend to buy the comics with art that I like - I'm not much of a loyalist to titles, but to artists. I've been a big fan of Amanda Conner for quite some time, as well as Jimmy Palmiotti's writing, so Power Girl has been in my hands (oh, if only!) every month since the new run started. With them leaving, that's one less book I'll be buying, until I find their next title.

Anyone know of an IMdb-like site for comics where one can track one's favorite artists/writers? Sure would be useful for me; my faves seem to be getting harder and harder to find, and I wouldn't give you a nickle for most of the current crop of artists (when did the actual ability to draw become more of a bonus and not a requirement??)

I'll say this much, there needs to be a Power Girl movie made.

With Christina Hendricks.

Too many artists have this interchangable photo-reference look to really jump out at me. Conner has a specific look that lets you know this an AMANDA CONNER book.

Amanda Conner's art is always great-- I loved her Supergirl feature in Wednesday Comics.

Judd Winick, on the other hand, started his Green Arrow run fairly well, but then I realized he was just telling the same story every time, and he completely mishandled Dinah Lance and Connor Hawke. Also he thinks Deathstroke the Terminator is a formidable villain for some reason. (To be fair, even Brad Metzler made that mistake.)

That picture of Power Girl is terrible, even by Power Girls standards. Is that Michael Turner art?

^Looks like it's Turner, yes.

Can't criticise Turner too much here, how do you realistically draw someone whose breasts have their own gravitational field ?

True:) She has nice touch of realism in her work..and sort of warmess. The characters look very human and not plastic like:cool:
And I definetly want a Power Girl movie, with Christina Hendricks playing her.
She has the looks, the curves and most importantly..the acting skills for the role:bolian::drool:

From what I've seen of Amanda Conner's work, she is very good. A bit cartoony, but with a good grasp of expression and body language, and the ability to depict sexy characters without making them look like preening, awkwardly posed porn stars the way Turner and too many other comics artists do.

Here's an interesting piece on the subject of superhero posture, in which Conner is cited as a positive example:

I think we will be missing Conners art.
The new artist seems OK..but judging from the PG issue thirteen preview, his PG seems to have the same expression constantly:shifty::

I ordered Power Girl couple of days ago, the first TPB and the comic itself.
I just hope the stories will be good:shifty:
I also ordered Supergirl Vol 3: Identity and Teen Titans: Changing of The Guard( this to see how this series is).
I think, if I will still order some ongoing comic in the future,
it will be either Birds of Prey, Teen Titans or Justice League(JLA):)

In not sure about the Marvels range yet..though, there would the be classics like Fantasic Four and the X-Men.
Though, I dont want to over stuff myself:lol:;)..

Oh, I think that looks terrific. I find the expressions very effective, just in a subtler way than Conner's work, less cartoony and more naturalistic. I love the look of understated regret in Wonder Woman's eyes in the flashback panel. That's rather poignant. And the overall art style is very good.
