Women’s issues - bodily functions and such

I suspect most of us, who have periods, have had at least one such incident.
more than once, unfortunately. Much to my male colleagues' amusement I keep a row of tampons in the battery compartment of my office cam's bag. I seem to be past that problem for a few months now but I don't trust Mother Nature - she's known to play dirty tricks on people.
Speaking of undies, did any of you have "period panties?" In other words, undies that you might have thrown away but have saved for the heavy flow days.
yep. Why spoil any more of them instead of using the ones where you can't get the stains out anymore (btw, gall soap works miracles even on old blood stains).
Still have Herpes Simplex on my lips. Luckily just a small blister. Still has to heal, though. I hate that, it makes me look unkempt.
Please be very careful not to spread the virus to your eyes, ears or other body parts. The little critter is not only annoying but occasionally outright dangerous as I found out the hard way last month when the darned Herpes simplex virus befell the nerve that controls my sense of equilibrium. It took me 5 weeks to relearn walking, typing and driving and I'm not yet back to bicycling or to wading in the water. My doc says on average it takes 3 months for people to regain full control again. It's a condition that happens oftener than one might think (7% of all people who see a doc because of dizziness have it), mostly in women between 50 and 60. Perhaps we are particularly easy to attack during hormonal changes.

Oh. Luckily it is healing very well. My mother had Herpes Zoster (Gürtelrose). It took very long to heal and it hurt very much. Sie was sick at home for many days. Now she is retired. I pray that I don't get such problems anytime soon. I had it around my mouth after a tonsil surgery. Very nasty. Luckily my stress level is currently low. It is also a stress related thing.

thanks for the tip! Sounds pretty nasty.

I pray that I don't get such problems anytime soon.
At the uni they taught us 30 years ago that Herpes zoster and simplex can't share one host. If you have lip-herpes, you're safe from shingles.
However, the other day I read a study that claims there are exceptions. I do hope they are wrong!

Do you know the problem of looking awfully fat/bad with a lot of cellulite when you are in a changing booth of a clothing store? The bad lighting makes your body look pale and like a big orange. :brickwall:
I hate it to look flabby...... Shopping is no fun. I guess that's why many women buy their clothes online.

I buy my clothes online, I can try them on comfortably in my home and send them back if I'm not happy. I ordered two skirts last week, one stayed and one went back.

I do my shoes like this also, I bought three pairs of pumps and I kept one. And when I try them on at home, they have no way of knowing I'm not wearing socks! <evil laugh>

Oh how you've just got to love fast and free shipping! :)

I only buy clothes online if I've tried ones on that are the same in the store. I'm usually getting different colors of the same item, or else they didn't have my size in the store. If sizes were standardized, I might take a chance on different online stuff, but I can wear anything from a small (very rare) to an XL (also rare). It's insanity.

One would think losing 40 lbs would mean that it would be easier to find clothes. I'm size medium. But no, they'll have XS, S, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. Damn it.

Uhhg this is a topic that features in many of my internal rants. I have had problems my whole life. I was a late bloomer, so didn't start my first period until I was 14 almost 15. But I hurt for MONTHS before hand. There after I would have one period every six months. I was probably 98 lbs soaking wet and had problems gaining weight. My mom had me drinking Ensure, though it didn't help. At 18 I was about 100 lbs and 5'8 with really painful erratic periods. Finally got a MRI and they told me it looked like I had Endometriosis and if it ever got too painful or I wanted kids they would have to go in and clean it out.. They put me on birth control to try and regulate me, but that just made me have fake morning sickness and stopping to puke on the way to school in the morning really sucks so I didn't stay on it long.

I'm 37 now and I have two day periods, they've been getting shorter it seems, but are fairly regular now as far as being once a month. I think that's because I was on Lyrica for awhile and it made me gain 50lbs. I usually use two large tampons and I'm done. I still have a lot of discomfort surrounding them occasionally, but not that bad. I figure it's a good thing I'm not really wanting kids, since I'm pretty sure that would be out at this point anyway.

I’ve bought clothes online before, and have (generally) had pretty good success with things fitting OK. Unfortunately, I don’t think we have near the online options available that they do in the US, and for what we do have, free shipping is either non-existent, or has a very high purchase threshold.

Amazon Canada recently started selling clothes, and I’d like to try that, but nothing is actually sold from Amazon directly, so it’s just basically buying from a Marketplace seller. Plus it’s nice to have a B&M store to return to if things don’t work out.

Sadly, my main store for buying clothes online (primarily because it was generally inexpensive, and money is somewhat tight) went out of business not too long ago. :(

I did buy a pair of boots online once. Never again. The sizes are just too variable. Footwear is now an in-store purchase only.

I run into the same problem in store sometimes. They'll either have smalls, mediums and so on of t shirts I like. I tend to only go with guy's shirts (meaning ones with characters and writing on it), as I'm no fan of the sleeves on women's shirts these days. And shoes, that's fun too. I go between size 8 1/2 and a 9... trying to find them in that size at times can be a bit of a pain.

I wear a size 10 shoe. Did when I was skinny; did when I was fat; and now that I'm thinner again, still size 10.

It used to be that one could buy shoes online based on size and they fit perfectly. The last few years, they've wrecked that. My so-called 10 might be an 11 (looking at you, Sketchers), or a 9 or a 9 1/2 might feel like a ten. VERY vexing. I mean come on. My feet are 10. They haven't shrunk. Calling them a 9 won't make me feel dainty; I have big feet. And I couldn't care less.

@JKM I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve gone through all that, especially as a kid. That sounds very difficult. :( I’m glad your periods have seemed to become more consistent.

I was just told a few weeks ago that I need to have a laparoscopy and possibly an HSG for endometriosis. I looked online for support forums but I couldn’t find anything.

I have super painful periods even though I’m on lo-estrin birth control. I have cramps pretty much ever day, even when I’m not menstruating. I’ve also had post-coital bleeding since I was about 18. Lately there’s been a lot of pain during sex, to the point where I’m doubling over afterward sometimes. My last period lasted a full two weeks, that’s when I decided to go in to the OB and see what was wrong.

I’m hoping if they have to do the HSG it’s at the same time as the laparoscopy. I don’t want to have to get surgery twice in a few months.

If you don’t mind me asking, have you had a laparoscopy? What was your recovery like? I’ve never had surgery and I’m a nervous wreck.

Same here regarding buying stuff online. I'm really picky about the way things fit me (and the way they feel, moreso) I'm also a medium and it's really hard to find stuff in my size that I really like. A pox on being average! ;)

@TribbleCookie there are a couple of people I work with who have endometriosis and they have the exact same symptoms that you do (and it sounds most unpleasant). :( I hope the surgical procedure helps you!

@JKM I'm really so terribly sorry you've had to go through all that, but I'm glad to hear your life seems to be stabilizing a bit now. I've been very fortunate I've always had very regular periods, sometimes I can have a weird month when I'm feeling really stressed, but I seem to get back on track quickly. I thought I was going to have a really bad weekend, I guess because Friday morning I started really heavy first thing, but it seemed to get lighter as my day went on, and I made it through Saturday and Sunday with just a couple tampons.

I'm also a medium and a size 8, and I don't seem to have a lot of difficulty ordering from Amazon. Well I do return a lot, but it's nice having free two day shipping and free returns, right? I can just print up my return labels, put my items into a box and I can have it picked up either by the post office or UPS for no charge. So I'll sometimes order a few different things and send back what doesn't fit me.

Like with my shoes, I saw something that looked nice, so I ordered in sizes 8, 8.5, and 9, and I found the 8.5 most comfortable, so that's what I kept. I'm pretty picky about what I like, and I love having such a huge selection online.

Don't use that brand, but this makes me want to swtich to a diva cup.
I might be wrong, of course - I'm a guy, and no expert on feminine hygiene products. But I've gotten the impression from the articles I've seen on this that the problem with that particular product came from them trying to "get fancy", and probably doesn't reflect on the basic tampon design that women have been using reliably for quite a while now. Like Scotty said, "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." ;)

Thank you, my teen years were not fun by any measure. I haven't had a laparoscopy, no. I'm pretty sure I had crappy Doctors though. I was pretty much told you have this problem, it's painful, deal with it. My most painful days are usually right before my period starts. I've had days where as soon as I get on my feet, the cramping starts and my pain scale goes from 0 to 12 on a 1-10 scale. I've actually almost passed out due to the pain a few times. It's not as bad as when I was younger, but because of health issues I've had, I have a really high pain tolerance too, so maybe I've just gotten used to it. The most frustrating thing for me when I was younger was I had people say to me 'Why do you like being so skinny?' like it was a choice. :censored: It made me so mad because I had so many health issues because of it. That is basically what the Dr told me, that I was underweight so my body wasn't producing enough hormones.

I hope your surgery goes well! The only surgery I've had to date was to have my tonsils out at 25 and that was pretty scary for me. It was horrible getting over it too, but the surgeon said he had never seen tonsils in such bad condition before. They had pus pockets all over them and he said they had been pouring poison into my body for years which had probably caused a lot of my other health problems, i.e. Fibromyalgia, and I even had Shingles my senior year in college. I actually had to relearn how to swallow liquid after having them out because my tonsils had been taking up so much room that when I drank liquid after they were out, I kept choking.

Thanks. Yes, I used to be really crazy irregular and that's when the pain was the worst. They put me on Lyrica in my early 20s for Fibromyalgia and I gained like 50lbs and that helped the girly problems immensely. When I got off it, I dropped that weight but kept about ten pounds and I think I'm at a decent enough weight for my height though still underweight by my Doctor's recommendation. They said I should be around 130-135 for being 5'8 and I'm currently, with clothes and shoes on, at about 123lbs. Hopefully I don't lose anymore. The year before that I was 126lbs when I went to the DR.

I used to have three day periods, but I'm down to two. I literally wear like three tampons in that time period. A heavy one the first day and that night and the next day a light one and then I'm usually done. I figure it's probably not a good thing they're so short, but at this point I also figure it doesn't really matter.
