Woman banned from EVERY bar in the UK (with picture)

Government can't, and shouldn't, be used to be everyone's mommies and daddies and protect us from the big bad world.

So says an Obama voter

I didn't vote for Obama because I think government is needed to solve our or problems or to protect us. I voted for Obama because I was tired of the Republican's bullshit and their actions over the previous 8 years. I voted for Obama because Sarah Palin being a cancer-ridden geriatric heart-beat away from presidency. I voted for Obama because I thought he was the best man for the job and his principles and ideals were the best for America.

I do not think government is needed in every possible situation to protect people from themseleves and each other. Yes, "government" is needed to make sure everyone has -for example- affordable and quality health care. It is not needed to tell an adult woman she's not a responsible enough person to drink alcohol.

I disagree. The police are there to protect society and enforce the law. If someone is putting the safety and wellbeing of others at risk, whether it be because they're drunk, psychotic, or just a dick, then the police are well within their rights to punish that person.

Wanna bang on about rights? How about the rights of the people she abuses in her drunken states?

She has demonstrated that she is incapable of policing her own behaviour, her friends and family seem to be unable, or unwilling, to step in, so therfore the authorities have no choice but to protect society by issuing her with a drinking ban.

Maybe you should familiarise yourself with the social issues that have led to the use of ASBO's, instead of just jumping on the "It's 1984!!" bandwagon, and condemning our government as being a bunch of totalitarians who just want to meddle in the lives of its populous.

Maybe you live in a country where it's perfectly acceptable to be a loud, drunken, violent, loutish wanker, but fortunately, we don't.

Well, that does rather depend on where you go, and who you ask

Well, I did say "acceptable", as opposed to "commonplace". :p

But yeah, point taken. There are large areas in the inner cities where the residents do think it is acceptable to be loutish wankers and treat others like shit. That is sorta the problem, though.

Exactly. The Government's hand has been forced. Also, the US sure likes to play nanny state when it comes to abortion, so Trekker needs to lay off of his criticism of Britain.

^ And in fact since we are speaking of nanny stateism, were this woman an American citizen she wouldn't be able to buy (and in some states even consume) alcohol regardless of her standard of behaviour, because despite being a legal adult she is not 21

The legal age for consumption in the UK is 5 btw ;)

My son is going to love it when we hit Britain next year :guffaw: He'll be 16.

^ He'll be able to drink in a bar if you are having a meal then, but not on his own.

Let the good times roll! :D

Maybe not so much. He'll still have to be 18 to buy it. However, it's legal for him to consume it on licensed premesis, as long as you purchase it for him as part of a meal.

One of the greatest concepts Star Trek taught us we learn in Star Trek III. That the needs of the one can out weigh the needs of the many.
Yes, let's compare Spock, a wise, logical, and brilliant man who sacrificed himself in order to save hundreds of others to a young, immature, drunken lout that fails not only to adhere to the laws of society, but also to the concept of decency.

Spock was a soul worth saving. This woman should have been aborted before birth. :shifty:

Yep, already have that angle figured. A draught with the meal will be fine with both me and my host. Unlike prude Americans, I let him sample the suds I buy, and unlike (most) Americans, I don't drink cheap or lite beer. :techman:

There's always the time honoured tradition of standing outside an off-licence looking shifty and saying things to passers by such as: "Hey, Mister! If I give you the money will you get us some cans?" Or in cases of extreme poverty, cider.

DAMN.
