And if so, how can Star Wars respond?
With the new movie, is Star Trek now "cooler" than Star Wars?

i never got why star wars was "cooler" than star trek. doesn't make sense to me. more frustrating, yes i can understand, but not cooler. i just don't get the fascination with a bunch of powerful people who allowed themselves to be defeated and let evil reign across the galaxy because they were unwilling to dirty themselves by using their powers fully to defeat that which they ended up letting take over the galaxy anyway. that's like feeling sorry for a pedestrian who got hit because he walked through flowing traffic and not even bothering once to try and run. what am i not getting about the basic idea of star wars?
In Star Trek, everyone is always like "ooooh! ahhhhhh! Aliens! Lets talk for an hour about our social and cultural differences and show you how ours is better." In Star Wars a human sees a Twi Lek and he's like "'Sup Dwayne."
There was nothing wrong with the animation aspect of the Clone Wars movie or the cartoon. The problem is:
B) They detract so much from the PT.
It's people like you that make me goWell, for one the aliens actually look like aliens. Not just just guest stars with clay bumps on their heads. The social attitudes I especially like. Star Wars is White Knights and Black Knights in Space, blowing shit up with magic and dogfights, all in a Sergio Leone Western. Nothing Star Trek has ever done will top that in terms of geek cred.
The Original Star Wars was also one of the most important films ever made in terms of just movie making. None of the Trek movies have ever achieved that.

I aims to please.I may have just died laughing.
Uh...no. Star Wars is still a money-making machine. Every new hardcover hits high up on the New York Times Bestseller list (in spite of the fact that the last couple of series have been disappointing). Star Trek wishes it could sell even a tenth of the toys, video games, and other merchandise that Star Wars continues to sell (okay, that might be a slight exaggerationStar Wars is even more desperately in need of a revitalization than Star Trek
