wireless internet for Laptops?

Doing a search for "mobile broadband" in the TrekBBS brought me to this thread.

I'm actually thinking strongly about signing up for a plan, as my current setup (3G broadband via my little mobile phone handset) is not particularly ideal what with its 1Gb download limit, which is annoying as my computer downloads OS and antivirus updates very frequently [Among, um, other "things" - someone] meaning that my actual net experience is very limited - to the point that I'm stopping image downloads in order to make ends meet.

I'm going to opt for a package with a decent monthly download limit, although a max download speed of anything above 2 Mbits/sec is good enough for me (it's what my parents have on their home broadband which is still nippy), and there are a good few decent packages available, but I'm also wondering if, since the start of this thread, more people have taken up mobile broadband and what their experiences are with it?

I just want to point out that surfing the internet on your laptop while on the freeway isn't the best idea.

You want a Verizon Mifi. It's like a tiny iPod with no screen and no controls.

You pay Verizon and it gets a 3G signal from them. It then turns that into a small wifi network. This is awesome because 5 devices can use it. So you AND your friend can get online with it!

Plus, it can stay in your bag, so you don't have to plug something into your laptop.

You have to remember to charge it, but other than that it's better than a 3G card for your laptop.
