WIP Enterprise Protostar

definitely...

the blue section almost adds a biological componant to an already sleek and smooth design... definitely has a very 'alien' feel to it... somewhat vulcan / romulan in the aft design while strictly federation at the front...

me like :)

Thanks. Essentially the dark blue texture, is the same one as the other blue texture, but with a very high reflective and specular settings. It's very hard to get a dark texture in 3DSmax, by an actual texture color. If you don't play with the reflection and specular it doesn't get that dark. But I will try to balance it with the other and see how it goes.

A background story: It is made to be the first ship to go into another galaxy. For that it creates it's own worm hole. It's crew is smaller because of the risk they would be on their own for a long period of time, once they are gone. So they made a ship that could be run by 100, but have space for 450-500. The original crew would have been around 350. They would have come back around 400, but half of the crew came from the other galaxy. Meaning, they lost around 150 peoples during the 4-5 years they build the permanent gate, and explored the other galaxy.

A No Man ship was send before them with 3 holograms commanders. They stand at midway between the two galaxies and have transform their ship into a mid-point relay, that can also do repairs. Since galaxies can change places, the midway point is essential to establish a permanent wormhole, as a point of reference.

But from that point and forward, I would assume it would have been best to be represented by humans instead of holograms.

Cool Write up :)

I changed the darker color quite a bit:

Afterward I went to try to redesign the side struts on the saucer. After half done attempt I decided to overlay the piece of 3d on the actual design and deform it ti fit better. I like that it's rounder, like the rest of the ship. And at least it's not as flat as it was before.

Below saucer. I almost want to say it's done that way. I don't feel I should put windows that much either.

Close up on the texture and small piping.

Isn't that writing on upside down? The bottom of the text should face the rear of the ship on the bottom of the hull.

If you see the ship from the front, why it would be upside down ? Anyway, I thing I have attach that texture to the saucer, not sure it can be easily undone without screwing the one on top now...(Since they are linked)

Ahhh! I get it. MMmm...this gonna be hard or messy to undo. I will try it later. It's just a question of putting +90 degree instead - 90. But I have to detach the shape without breaking the rest.

I fix the lettering under the saucer, it was backward. I was able to delete the element, and redo it completely. Easier, cleaner.

Anyway, there is side windows on the saucer and the top hull. I also refine the energy band on top.

I did the texture of the external singularity emitters. Part of it, is transparent, so what you see is the emitter itself.

I change the light of the singularity. It was unpractical up close...So I made a volume light instead with a translucent sphere.

work on the back of the hull. You can see extra windows on the side. Now I need to fix that bottom light texture, so it doesn't get all swash up.
