It looks kinda like it's made of chrome or something else with a mirror finish. Doesn't quite suit it, I think...
In 3dsmax, the light is in the center of the objet, and project the light effect. If I put a color other then black and white, all the lighting change color. Before it was blue, that meant all the ship would be tinted in blue. I know it's more realistic, but I prefer a white projection to get a good color for all the rest of the textures.
Sorry - I didn't mean the glowy bit. I meant the actual hull of the ship, on the bottom in that rear view...
Ah, ok. That's the bit where I need to fix it. The texture of the hull just kind of deform itself. I will need to add the same texture with a different UVW map to display properlay. Those UVW with a box shape, doesn't always work the way it's intended. And planar is out of the question because the hull bottom is kind of rounder. If you are speaking about the shuttle bay doors. They are in a metalic aluminium color.
Not much done this week. Felt too tired, but I have arrange the main texture on the bottom hull. Now it is properly displayed. Added some pod there and put the torpedo launchers (Round disk thing)
The repeating pattern of the texture makes it look like a wonky clone job. Sorry... I do like the two rows of thingies on the bottom though.
The blue pale strip are phasers. The pods are teh two rows of 5 dark objects. It might be hard to see the side texture on the last pic, this one is better:
Well, i finished the ring. Added the warp engine between the edge of the ring. ON the top inside of the ring, I put the singularity shield's stabilizers. And the red collector thing up front. I was able to redo the video post effect, so now I have a very nice flare effect on the singularity. Basically, that would be it. I will probably do something like a wallpaper in the finished project section. I want to do a movie, but I don't know how to do it in 3dsmax for now...
I wasn't crazy about this design when you started modeling it but it's grown into something really unique and awesome. I would love to see it as the next Enterprise.
The video on youtube. With After Effect I was able to do the movie in MOV at the right speed. Complicated for nothing but the movie render of 3dsmax is ugly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFTlsHMVvoE
This is the website page for the finished project: http://www.3ddub.net/star-trek-enterprise-protostar/ You have a youtube video too and 11 high quality shots. Two wallpapers will follow...
For those of you interested in wallpapers go to my site's post: http://www.3ddub.net/star-trek-enterprise-protostar-wallpapers/ Thank you for your encouragement in this project.
