Winona Ryder is Amanda

I would expect Sarek to be played by at least as well known an actor as Ryder than.

I do think Ryder is a bit of an odd choice, but perhaps that oddness will play well for Amanda, who I always thought was a bit of an odd character.

Can't wait to see who they get for Sarek.

Bizzare. I love me some Winona Ryder, but strange choice. I can kind of sort of imagine it... though she seems too young to be Quinto's mother. Weird. Gonna have to see how that goes. Maybe as the mother of little-boy Spock?

Who knows.

For all we know, the spy shots we've seen could be characters from the 25th century.

There are so many recognizable actors in this movie that it will become an object of curiosity. Interesting strategy for generating buzz.

This is an interesting if unexpected choice. Like someone else said I can see it in a strange kind of way.

Sharr

Man, with all this attention and high profile, I just hope the movie doesn't flop--especially with current bureaucratic atmosphere.

Hey, I even used to live in Winona.

Really.

If Slater plays Sarek that would generate a lot of discussion about a certain crewman on the Excelsior I assume?

Would that make the Cardassian that tortured Picard a descendant of the love child of Klingon Chancellor Gorkon and human ambassador St. John Talbot?

Good to see someone of Winona's talent on board. Hopefully this is a step for her career comeback.

So long as it's a better film than Alien: Resurrection!

I think she'll be good.

The prop department might have to keep an eye on her though... ;)

A very unexpected casting. Can we expect the same for Sarek and Kirk's parents?

Despite fan-wankery, Amanda is a minor character, so having her physically match Jane Wyatt is ridiculously unimportant.

Ryder has proven she can pull off the stagey regality that Wyatt portrayed (Dracula, Age of Innocence). She'll do good.

Wow. She is one of my favorite actress, great casting news.
She is probably best actor/actress in this movie.
