Windfall?

Taylirious

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
a piece of unexpected good fortune, typically one that involves receiving a large amount of money

I see the current Powerball is Estimated $208 Million / $131.3 Million Cash Value

And it makes me think what a tremendous amount would do? Good, Bad & Ugly.

It also makes me think about wealth in our world. Is it about mansions & millions, power?

I personally just enjoy living a modest life and want to have a few experiences that I currently can't afford.

Is always wanting really good? I want more than what I have which isn't much but I know where I draw the line when I cut ego out of the equation.

We (my family and myself) have clean water, but we could be displaced at any time, and we do live hand to mouth. We also have a number of medical conditions among us that makes the already very stretched dollar even moreso.

With that kind of money, I'd pay off everyone's medical bills, get my mom the therapy she needed, buy my parents their own home, open up a homeless shelter; there are a million things I could do with that kind of money.

There's nothing wrong with wanting wealth; I think it's more about how you get it and what you do with it. If you get it by destroying other people's lives, or use it to oppress people, then that is wrong. Otherwise, enjoy it. Life is short, and it ends badly.

Money cannot buy happiness but it is one hell of a down payment.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself; it can provide you with motivation, something to strive for. Wealth can allow you the freedom to choose new paths, to help others and contribute to society in ways you would otherwise not be able.

I think the manner in which you actually achieve and manage wealth is the more important question. If one becomes wealthy by being an evil bastard, or you turn into an evil bastard once you become wealthy, then you were always an evil bastard; you just now are a rich one.

Money doesn't buy happiness. It can however buy one out of many forms of misery. Not quite the same thing, but I'd err on the side of money.

I wouldn't mind that. I'd love to use a bit of that to make a Trek fan film.

I already have a project in mind. It is a "tiny home" community. This would be for those who are homeless, yet do not want to be. The windfall would be to buy a large tract of land, tiny houses and an office/community kitchen.

Money does buy happiness, they buy jet skis and have you ever seen a sad person on a jet ski?

What would I do with a lot of money?

Depending on how much I got:
Ensure my secure retirement.
Make sure any child I have has secure living.
Give my dad adequate funding to help with my mom's care.
Give my nieces enough money for a college education and my first-cousin, once removed as well.
Donate to charitable causes, and make sure my co-workers have good pay. I'd stay at the same pay I'm getting and let them have enough money to live well. One of my charitable causes would be where I work since it's a non-profit and we don't turn children away because their family can't pay. I'd make sure our roof was fixed and the buildings were repainted.
I'd buy cheap but decent clothes for myself, get a new car and have a spa day.

Travel. Travel, travel, travel. I'd go to Hawaii, Mexico, London, Ireland, Rome, Rio, the Caribbean, the South Pacific.

I'd keep about $10 million for myself and set up a foundation to do good with the rest.
