William Shatner Confirms Talks for Star Trek Return at 93 Years Old

I don't recall them ever acting like humans from a specific region of the Earth.
While I can’t speak to customs, as far as speech is concerned there’s no such thing as a person without an accent. If they don’t seem like someone from a specific background or generalized culture that’s only because we (whomever “we” is) shares that background or generalized culture. Kira Nerys acts/sounds American. Most TV Romulans act/sound like Hollywood Romans — usually (formal, Shakespeare-acting) American, occasionally British. Nero acted/sounded (informal) American. Laris acts/sounds Irish. I see no real problem here.

I don’t know, to my mind it sounds kind of fun. And since it’s not Shatner writing this time, there’s no reason to assume it’ll be “Kirk comes in and effortlessly owns the future because he’s such a big damn god” like The Return and its sequels became (fun though they were). Picard did lay the seed, so why not play with it?
POSITIVES
- Captain Kirk, back in Starfleet, in a brand new uniform
- He will possibly captain the ENTERPRISE one more time
- Exploration of an only-talked-about era of Trek
- Less fanw*nk, more story
- The writers have written for him before

NEGATIVES
- No reunion with Spock, McCoy, Scotty etc. They are all long since gone (The press release stressed Captain Kirk is the only returning character)

QUESTIONS
- Will Kirk's resurrection get any sort of discussion, referencing Picard Season 3 or even the Unification short?
- Even if a symbol of hope, how can Kirk be optimistic if he's isolated and everyone he's ever known is dead?
- If the book goes on long enough after Starfleet Academy S1, could the EMH appear?

1. There’ll have to be some explanation, I’d think, though I wouldn’t count on references, especially to Unification.
2. He’ll mourn them, of course… but hey, what’s out there? And/or he’ll be too busy to wallow for long.
3. No reason why not, especially since we know he’s around in Starfleet Academy a good century and a half later. (Though I’m still disappointed that’s probably not going to be the backup copy who headed for home).

Presumably the EMH will be out of bounds until they've established his new status quo on screen

Thought of another one. Shizon has a British accent. Though I don't know if it's Hardy's actual accent. Seems to be trying to match Stewart's.

I hadn’t thought of that. Why would Shinzon have had a British accent if he was a clone grown by Romulans and had never been around Earth people before? Because any accent he would have used to fake other people into thinking he was Picard would have been itself a fake accent.

Also, what’s up with Deanna Troi’s accent? Neither of her parents have it; they just have regular American accents.

Because we need to be hit over the head with the fact he's Picard's clone!!!!!! He was taught by Romulan human language expert H'Nree H'Ginz.

I've heard Sirtis based it on her Greek relatives and then Majel shows up with her Auntie Mame Lawaxana and there went that idea.

So the story goes, Sirtis herself asked about the accent after Lwaxana was introduced and was told "her father's accent." Obviously, no one informed the guy cast to play her father in the seventh season.

Troi can hear other peoples voices in her head as well as being empathic to their emotions, this has been shown as canon on screen. Maybe Deanne’s teachers on Betazed who were tutoring her in this telepathic communication technique had this accent when they spoke to her? Perhaps all of the ‘psychic’ chatter that Troi heard in her head when she was younger was in this ‘Greek like’ accent? Others could have spoken to her from a very young age and engrained this accent into her expression of oral/verbal linguistic communication?

I did notice that by the time of Star Trek: First Contact, Troi was speaking rather commonly, though, almost like she and reverted to old London Cockney rhyming slang.

Well, I hope he was fired because in Star Trek continuity is king.

Nanny was from a different part of Betazed with a different language....Nah, this is Star Trek. ;)
Which is perfectly consistent all the time and never, ever, makes mistakes.
