Different priorities, I guess. I hate shopping and I hate having to read instruction manuals and having to cope with the learning curve of figuring out the latest high-tech gizmo.
Tech stuff just isn't fun for some of us. It's like getting a root canal or doing my taxes: Necessary, sometimes, to be sure, but, if I can, I'll put it off as long as possible.
Not saying it won't happen...but with DVD sales dropping and streaming viewers rising, there's no guarantee it will be released on physical media.
See: DS9. It has to be cost effective.
Well, the reason there won't be a DS9-R is, that show requires massive changes to be releasable in HD. Series VI will be shot natively in that format, so if DVD/Blu-Ray is still around at all when the time comes, sure it'll be released.
Well, while we're all speculating...if the ratings on the premiere episode are extremely high (which I bet they will be), but those high numbers don't carry over to the CBS app, then what do you think CBS will do with the series? Will they stick it out? Will they reduce the budget for the series and let the chips fall? Will they let the series die on their streaming app? Or will they put the show back on traditional television? I'm personally hoping for a success for the CBS app because I'd like to see something similar for every traditional TV station I love.
My other observation is I wonder if cable and satellite companies will also eventually see the writing on the wall and start negotiating with networks and attempt to offer bundle deals on streaming apps? Or will the apps remain a la carte?

I got one of those flat 27" tubes, best picture I've ever had. All of the other tvs I had were beveled.

And I haven't actually paid for Star Trek in so long. The last movie I saw in a theater was TFF. 'Nuff said.

People will only pay for this if it actually is the level of quality expected from other pay services. Most people will wait until they hear other people raving about it before putting down any money.
The difference between standard def and high def is bigger for sports fans. In some sports like tennis or hockey you can't even see the ball in standard def.

I don't think the question will be settled once and for all, but more a matter if there is a willingness to try All Access to see the pilot.
Only time will tell with regards to my continuing the subscription. But, right now, yes.

When you say "I'm going to subscribe to something unless I stop liking it." what you're actually saying is "yes" because the rest doesn't need to be said.
My brother works for cable tv provider in London England. He said only in the couple years have they finally shut down black and white antenna braodcast signals. So if by chance you were using a FORTY year old black and white tv up until say 2010 you will now probably have to buy a new one.
We have 2 tvs in our house, and to be honest that's probably one more than we need. They're both HD, but the 720p. That was good when we bought them and it's still fine. No 3D, 4k, or whatever. I don't want to be cutting edge but a few years back is good

I have to say no to CBS All Access just for one show.
Besides new Trek, what will it have to offer? All the CSI and NCIS a person could ever want? Sitcoms we don't watch anyway? No thanks. I already have Amazon Prime and Netflix.
For those who are thinking they'll sign up and watch the season dump and cancel, I think CBS has probably anticipated that. I'm not expecting them to release more than one episode per week. I could be wrong, but if they're counting on subscriptions to pay for at least half the budget ...

Nuh, which is a shame really as I like trek. I wouldn't mind it being ad supported (beginning and end not middle with tasteful ads) but generally I don't think so. It takes me more than one episode to decide whether something will be any good, not being exceptionally bad the first time, is not an excuse for me to part with my cash.

But as I said, its not the 90s anymore, I really don't care about how much Star Trek VHS tapes cost or how hard it was to get cable channel with Star Trek back then, with that advent of services like Netflix, where you can watch thousands of shows and movies at one service. Being a Star Trek fan shouldn't be comparing about how tough it was to watch some of these shows in the past, it should be about everyone here enjoying and talking about this new show, because CBS put it on the most convenient service possible and that would have been one of the 3 big services most people already subscribe to, not a 4th that seems inferior by comparison. If this Star Trek series was on Netflix or something, I bet almost no one would complain.
I am not going to keep a service I have no use for, for the sake of one show. I have entertainment interests besides Star Trek and if CBS All Access doesn't have anything else that matches up with my other interests, I see no reason to have it beyond a month. CBS' middle of the road network TV shows are not my cup of tea in general, a streaming service needs more then that to keep me. 6 bucks a month is for the whole service, not just Star Trek, so the whole service will have to appeal to me, if I am going to keep it more then a month.
Yeah, I think there's about zero chance they release all the episodes at once.
So I could just wait till all the episodes are up, then sign up for the service and then cancel it after watching the season. I can be patient.
