Kind of makes me wonder just who IS buying the xbox one?
My brother, for one. He visited over the last few days and kept picking fights with me over it. He truly believes that Xbox One will be the superior console because of features enabled by the new Kinect, and he's disappointed that MS backed away from their previous DRM policies as he said that those features would be conveniences for him. He also believes the claims about cloud processing and how it will be a game-changer, and he uses the phrase "future proof" a lot. At one point, he referred to the PS4 as the "Playstation 3.5". He thinks that indie games are mostly crap and that forcing indie devs to partner with publishers will impose quality control on the XBL marketplace. He accuses me of taking part in an anti-MS circlejerk because of my concerns about what I perceive to be worrying anti-consumer policies associated with MS's flagship products over the last few years. He compared my preference for the PS4 as being a similar form of delusion as those exhibited by religious fanatics.

He owns a Surface RT tablet and a Windows phone, and he's planning on buying a new PC with Windows 8. Just throwing that out there so you get an impression of how platform agnostic he is.

He's probably right - the X1 may very well be a superior performer compared to the PS4.

But it doesn't matter. Performance vs customer trust. The latter is a game-changer.

I don't see how. The PS4 has better spec, they're both running cloud services, Sony has it's own film and tv studios to fall back on for entertainment options. Just off the top of my head.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the cloud service on xbox1 integrated a lot better than the ps4, one thing I will give microsoft is their online service is miles better than sonys, Microsoft does have the better infrastructure being a more specialised tech company.

I think the xbone will be ok tbh, I kind of answered my own question in regards to who's buying it, since it's selling well but no gamers seem to be getting it, it'll be the casuals buying. The "exclusive dlc" on COD probably tempting them haha.

They will bleed the casuals with cheap to make kinnect crap, sad but true it'll make money

Well looks like Sony will have the "log in and download your digital content on any device" that MS have removed.

http://www.officialplaystationmagaz...-play-your-games-anywhere-on-anyones-console/
Microsoft didn't remove playing your digital content on any device - the 360 already does that. They removed playing your retail content on any device (without the disc).

Does it? As far as I was aware the 360 only allowed limited amounts of downloads on other consoles and complete transferrals of licenses via a transfer cable and the One was to do the same?

The 360 allows unlimited downloads to other consoles; the only restriction is that you have to be signed into to play on any machine but the licensed one*, while that first machine will let anybody play. (I don't know if you have to be connected to Live on those other machines, or if the owner can play offline.)

The Sony system as described in that article sounds to me like it's structured the same way - the owner can download to any machine, but they have to be signed in to play.

* Defaults to where it's first downloaded. You can do a "license transfer" annually to move your licenses to another box.

If you have two 360s only one can be the main xbox and have full access to all digital content online and off, the other console will only have access to any digital content if it's signed into xblive, if not all digital content will be unplayable on said console.

If you have two PS3 both have full access to all digital content online and off, reguardless of what account is signed in, as long as the account that bought the content remains on the PS3/s.

Wii-U/Wii, well that's just a mess, all content is locked to the console and account, your console goes down the drain you just lost all your digital content, all you can do is send it to Nintendo in the hope they can repair it and get your digital content back.

Well, the Xbox is out and the PS4 due soon. Amazon reports the PS4 easily out preordered the Xbox.

Anyone changed their mind ?

If only they knew that all they needed to do was releasing GTA V for the PS4. I'd buy two, that's how happy they would make me. ;)

The engineer in me will never get anything 1.0 fresh out of the gates. Going to wait for a while for the bugs to shake out and, hopefully, for a non-Kinnect SKU to become available. Rumors have said this might happen Q1 2014. We'll see...

Some consumers will wait until a specific game comes out before getting either the Xbox One or PS4. i.e Halo 5 for the Xbox One, when that is released it might shift a few consoles.

I would consider a PS4 if it had a decent version of Gauntlet Legends or Gauntlet Dark Legacy. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that it will; AFAIK, the 2 was the last PlayStation console to have any Gauntlet game. :(

(I used to have a Dreamcast, back in the day. I bought it just to play GL.)

As for the XBox? Forget it. I will not, under any circumstances, give Micro$oft any of my money. I don't care how many Gauntlet games IT might get.

(Yes, as you can see, I like Gauntlet. )

I have heard talk that some people get PS3s or PS4s just for the Blu-Ray functionality. I always thought that was kind of weird. Why get a game console if you're not playing any games? Sony makes perfectly good BR players...

It used to be that the PS3 was cheaper than (or the same price as) a decent Blu-ray player. That's changed in the last few years, but for a while it made the most sense.

Yeah, I got a PS3 as a Bluray player - it was one of the best on the market at the time, and my son was happy with it as a games console. I gave up gaming after the PS1 !
