There was The Late Shift, the HBO movie about the behind-the-scenes machinations when Johnny Carson retired and Jay Leno took over The Tonight Show. We had TV-movies about Three's Company, Gilligan's Island, and Batman. There have been TV biopics about classic television stars like Jackie Gleason and Lucille Ball. So . . . do you think we'll ever see a dramatized TV movie about the making of the original Star Trek series?
Who could play Gene Roddenberry? Who would you cast as the younger versions of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, et al.? (My mind conjures up a vision of an open "cattle call" audition for the part of Shatner, with dozens of hopeful young actors standing on an empty soundstage, all doing their best Shatner impersonations at once -- like the auditions for the part of Hitler in The Producers!)
Of course, there would be the issues that always come up when dramatizing real events involving people who are still living, or their immediate family. For example, would G.R.'s son Rod object to a warts-and-all portrayal of his father?
