Will we ever see a "Making of Star Trek" TV-movie?

There was The Late Shift, the HBO movie about the behind-the-scenes machinations when Johnny Carson retired and Jay Leno took over The Tonight Show. We had TV-movies about Three's Company, Gilligan's Island, and Batman. There have been TV biopics about classic television stars like Jackie Gleason and Lucille Ball. So . . . do you think we'll ever see a dramatized TV movie about the making of the original Star Trek series?

Who could play Gene Roddenberry? Who would you cast as the younger versions of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, et al.? (My mind conjures up a vision of an open "cattle call" audition for the part of Shatner, with dozens of hopeful young actors standing on an empty soundstage, all doing their best Shatner impersonations at once -- like the auditions for the part of Hitler in The Producers!)

Of course, there would be the issues that always come up when dramatizing real events involving people who are still living, or their immediate family. For example, would G.R.'s son Rod object to a warts-and-all portrayal of his father?

I've long thought this would be a fun idea. Someone should put together a script synthesizing that authorized bio and the Engels book while leaning heavily on Justman and Solow's Inside Star Trek.

I wonder who could portray Jeffrey Hunter's wife to deliver the classic line "My Jeffrey is a movie star!"?

I think the fad of TV movies about the making of old TV shows has run its course, so we're unlikely to see something like this. It could've been fun, though. Maybe they could've cast Paul McGillion as James Doohan.

I respectfully disagree. Just as there will always be movies about the movie industry, there are sure to be TV movies about old TV shows and the people who created them. And we're not just talking about any old TV show here -- we're talking about STAR TREK!

Surely a retrospective warts n' all 'Making Of..' would be infinitely more superior?

How's this: The story of the creation, birth, and production of Star Trek is woven into a present-day framing story in which Shatner and Nimoy track down the guy who did that horrendous, over-weathered “restoration” job on the Enterprise model in the Smithsonian!

........and when they find him, what shall be his punishment?? ;)
Make him watch "And the Children Shall Lead," "The Way to Eden," "The Lights of Zetar," and "Plato's Stepchildren" over and over until he begs for mercy.

Agreed. Also, what producer would greenlight an expensive idea like this one? They'd have to reconstruct at least some of the Enterprise sets, props, uniforms, etc.
