Will Trek XI be remembered as "TOS"?

Well, there's TOS for the original serious, TNG for The Next Generation, DS9 for Deep Space Nine, VOY for Voyager, and ENT for Enterprise. So in essense that this film is TOS era, will it also be considered TOS or will fans refer it to "New TOS"?

I think Star Trek XI will probably stick, but I could just be terribly short-sighted.

Given time, I'm sure some fans will think of some name to distinguish this movie from what they consider to be "the real thing", just as they have with "Modern Trek", "Berman Trek" and "Bermaga Trek", "Fake Trek" (Hi, Stewey! :D ), TOS-R and all of the less-complimentary ones, as well. I'll bet that there are even some fans who have their name for the movie picked out already.

Well since Trek XI is a film, and TOS stands for The Original Series that would be a bit odd if they did.

TMP, TWOK, TSFS, TVH, TFF, TUC, GEN, FC, INS, NEM, so I guess Star Trek would be ST. Is that what you mean?

In my mind (and I think other people's minds), the films featuring the TOS crew are a separate entity from the TOS TV series, just as the TNG films are separate from the TOS films & series.

I think this film will be a separate thing in peoples mind -- separate from the TOS films, mostly because of the actors plus the fact that it was made 15 years after the last TOS-crewed film was made. However it's still all Star Trek to me.

I look at like when a band has a self titled album, like Metallica Metallica or The Beatles " White Album" , but is really just self titled. It's just Star Trek or ST, or Star Trek: Star Trek , Star Trek: Blue and Gold

I didn't think of it that way. Although I was referring more to the lines of the TV shows, since this is sort of a recreation of TOS. I thought maybe this might still be considered TOS if everything falls into place, or maybe "New TOS" or even TOS-R (which I think might work).

STXI...?
STJJ...?
nuST...?
STR...?
STINO...?

Beats me, but within the fan community, what we call it will greatly depend on it being good or bad, and who it pisses off.

I still don't understand the point of all these prequals. Seriously, when the 24th Century ended, I was hoping for a 25th Century show or possibly further into the future. We already can see that prequals don't work.

Since any following films won't be simply called "Star Trek", but will have to have a subtitle as all the others have, I'd say this one will likely end up being known as "STXI", or simply "XI".

"Star Trek" is a given, as it is with all the others.

I guess he's lumping Enterprise and the most recent Star Wars trilogy in with J.J.'s film.

There's nothing wrong with the concept of prequels. Was Enterprise miscast and poorly written? Yes. Did George Lucas write crappy dialogue and not do a good job of directing his actors in the PT? Yes. Does that mean prequels should be invalidated as a means of storytelling? Hardly.

Let J.J. fall on his face. Then we can lump him in with ENT and the PT.

Nope..

While I'm looking forward to the movie..

TOS is TOS and can not be replaced, only copied..
