Will they go back to primeTrek after nuTrek finishes?.

Ok then. My bladder won't sit in a crowded theater for more than 2.5 hours, and I don't have the patience to endure people shuffling back and forth in front of me because their bladders are smaller than mine.

Overly long movies used to be the exception, not the rule. And I still haven't seen Titanic, thanks. I'm still trying to get Leo's "performance" in Man in the Iron Mask out of my head.

Most of those older movies included intermissions, which seem to have fallen by the wayside.

Depends on which Trek. It blows Voyager and Enterprise out of the water. And early TNG, but then again a good dump blows early TNG out of the water.

Because there's no need to change reels.
Even manual changeover with two projectors was available. That's what the dots were for. I did that kind of job for a time. Maybe places or environments that could only use a single projector required time for reel changes and had intermissions. But in those cases, such as outdoor showings, intermissions were less about bathroom breaks and more about selling popcorn, drinks, candy, and ice cream.

Well, given that a lot of those longish movies--"The Sound of Music," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Doctor Dolittle," etc.--were aimed at family audiences, I imagine bathroom breaks were also a serious consideration! :)

I'd like to see some of these people leave the bridge and hit the head.
Babylon Five had a couple of scenes with the male leads urinating (backs to camera) while engaging in story exposition.

:)

I could never get into B5. It just seemed like low-rent Trek to me. ;)

No, it is not like Trek at all.

But it does have one similarity to Trek in it's story, and that is the motivation between the Vorlons and the Shadows fighting each other.

I wish more movies had intermissions, especially now that my local theaters also have bars in them :)

Are you in Louisiana by chance, Mak? :)

Our theaters have bars too. I can usually get a Jack and Coke slushie or two for the movies....although, given my recent hospital stay, I doubt I'll be doing alcohol again. (Not that I'm an alcoholic or heavy drinker, but when one's liver gets screwed up a bit because of gallstones, and your gallbladder has to get taken out....one should not take chances :) ).

Nah. I had my gallbladder removed in 1998 and I've had no issues drinking alcohol (except for one time in New Orleans, come to think of it  ).

Didn't the guy who played Riley leave to become a hippy?
He was a guest star, not a regular. The only reason Riley appeared twice was they changed the name of the character when Bruce Hyde was cast for "The Conscience of the King",

Exactly. Riley was never intended to be a recurring character. Somebody just remembered to use the same name the second time Hyde was cast as a crewman.

It's a pity. He was a fun character.

This point has been made in several different threads-it is just cheaper to produce shows set in the present. This includes even shows that have speculative content. (X-files, for example. ) So how would suits view the options...what is the bottom line?

This gives me an idea for a new Trek show which would be affordable - and possibly quite terrible (or actually decent):

Someone is screwing with the timeline, causing the Federation to cease to exist, so the show follows Federation agents as they travel to different times in Earth's history to fix the problems and stop the baddies. This would be cheaper to produce than a show set in the future, as they could just use the backlot or present day locations, as well as pre-existing wardrobe. One amusing facet would be to see how the world outside their future base has changed each time the agents come back from an operation (assuming their base is somehow "immune" to temporal skullduggery).

I realise this is basically a revival of the unpopular Temporal Cold War (from an insider perspective), but it would be doable, and with good writing it could be good. Quantum Leap has shown this genre can win an audience, and more recently there is the Canadian show Continuum. It could even be a "stealth" Trek show, designed to stand alone but with subtle continuity references for the fans.
I was thinking this over...there are comparisons other than the Temporal Cold War. Probably the most obvious is a TOS episode, Assignment: Earth. Other possible comparisons include the X-Files, Torchwood, and even Primeval.

I can imagine an attempt to sell a series of movies to The Powers That Be-"It's James Bond meets the X-Files."
Over looked another comparison-Project UFO.

Just occurred to me-what if our Star Fleet team investigated a UFO, and realized that they don't recognize the origin/civilization/species of the craft? That might lead to a bit of mystery. :cardie:

The Prime is dead in terms of live action. There are still novels.

However....with different authors writing different novels, it is easy to imagine their efforts branching off into distinctly different timelines.
