Only "These Are The Voyages" was a cheap fictional holo novel. And it wasn't part of the Augment arc.
I don't have to, the show does it for me, Riker calls it a historical simulation not a holonovel.

She was literally doing yeoman’s work. I wondered if they will have bring the Captain his coffee during her next appearance.
Yeah, her part on An Obol for Charon was unnecessary, but I think she was included only to provide a teaser for her future appearances.
It was more a case of "and don't forget about Number One...more to come later!" rather than being something meaningful for the character or that episode.

Number One's still ultra-logical right? Back in the Cage when they had smiling Spock.
Now that they've gotten Spock's character down, he and Number One need to interact again. Two logical sounding characters boring the rest of their crew to sleep through their dialogue. They were the original Tuvok and Seven of Nine whose ultra logical conversations were utterly dull.

There were better ways to do all of that. A great episode, for sure, but her part felt tacked on in a jarring way.

I thought An Obol for Charon was a "tacked together" episode in general. The story and the subplots were very interesting, but the story-telling was a bit messy. The pacing was odd and the different subplots were delivered in a jarring way (to borrow your word).
It was a great Trekky concept (very classic Star Trek), but poor execution from a production standpoint.
Number One's bit part of the episode was more of a symptom of that overall messy execution issue I had with the episode, so it wasn't something that I would necessarily single out as being poorly executed.
Oh no, they have mind reading food synthesizers on Discovery in the 23rd century. Canon violation alert!!
This tech could have saved us from all those times having to hear "Tea, Earl Grey, hot".
She ate a hamburger with jalapenos. Give her a bit more time to evolve the role... Besides, that's more than the original Number One did.
Hey, the original Number One overloaded her laser to stop the Talosians! Watch new Number One overload the warp core to wipe out the red angels. :O
